97 pontiac overheats with thermostat in. Thermostat changed, new water pump. Getting heat from heater, car runs fine for a few minutes, then will head directly into the red. Have led air from heater lines, plenty of fluid in system. Any ideas???

Try removing the thermostat and reverse flushing the motor, Actually try flushing in both directions, this will tell you if you have a circulation problem but 1 thing you should know is that the water goes in the water pump and out the thermostat, try running it without the thermostat and check your water flow
I would change the Thermostat. if that doesn't fix it? I would buy a Radiator flush and follow the directions exactly you will be surprised how much junk comes out. That should fix all your heat problems.
Sounds like to me it would be your water pump before a heater core. When the water pump goes out, it stops pumping the coolant through the system which is what would cause it to still overheat even with the thermostat out. Change the water pump and you should be good. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for using FixYa!
