For left hand drive vehicles: (If the car does not have ABS system you do not need any diagnostic equipment!)

IMPORTANT NOTE: You need using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car in order to bleed the ABS block. Follow instructions by scantool equipment for bleeding the ABS block.


1. This bleeding procedure requires two people. Remove the brake system reservoir cap, and fill up with new brake fluid until "MAX" level is reached.
2. Lift the car, or use a channel for access under vehicle.
3. Put the gearbox in "N" - Neutral position, or in "P" - Parking position for automatic transmission.
4. Start the engine and push the brake pedal firmly for 4 - 5 times to the floor, and maintain the brake pedal pushed to the floor.
5. Begin with the rear right wheel. Another person remove the dust cap and loose the brake caliper bleeding screw until the brake pedal goes to the floor. At this moment maintain the brake pedal pushed to the floor, engine idling, and tight the brake caliper bleeding screw. Use a plastic hose: one end connected to the brake caliper bleeding screw, and another end inside a recovery bottle for used brake fluid.
6. Repeat steps no.#4 and no.#5 until no air flows through the brake caliper bleeding screw. Tight the brake caliper bleeding screw, and put the dust cap in their place.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All the time check the brake fluid level in the brake system reservoir, and fill up if necessary!

15. Repeat steps no.#13 and no.#14 until no air flows through the brake caliper bleeding screw. Tight the brake caliper bleeding screw, and put the dust cap in their place.
16. Now the brakes are bleeded. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir. Fill up with new brake fluid until "MAX" level is reached. Put back the brake reservoir cap.
17. Test the car brake system. The brake pedal movement no more than 1/3 of total stroke until the floor, when brake pedal is applied. Maximum admissible is 1/2 of total stroke.

Hi there i have a 98 vw golf which i have changed the clutch master cylinder and the slave cylinder ive pumped the oil back into the system from the nipple on the slave cylinder until the oil came up into...

I would start by draining the oil out and replacing it with brake fluid added into the reservoir and drained down and out the nipple. then i would bleed the system, going to need a helper for this procedure, look on youtube to see someone bleeding a hydraulic clutch.

step # 1 29 ft/lbs
step # 2 44 ft/lbs
step # 3 turn bolts 180deg. further in one continuous movement, two separate 90deg. turns may be used.

Can't get front brakes to work

fill master cylinder, slowly close of brake lines to be sure you have pressure from master cylinder, pump brakes to check master, check that calipers were seated in housing properly

Snapped alternator belt

if its a similar engine to the standard vw's then you can bend the spring loaded tensioner right behind the alternator with a spaneer (shifting spanner works well) and it loosens the belt.

Brake bleeding procedure on 2000 vw golf

get a one man bleeder kit from halfords (about £7) and then you can go around the car and bleed the brakes without a assistant, you just attach the tool to the nipple on the caliper, loosen the nut, press the brake pedel a few times till there is no more bubbles in the hose and then move on to the next corner, there is a specific way to go around the car but if you start at the back and finish at the front it should be ok

Vw golf brakes rear seized

You have to clamp the flexible break hose with the appropriate tool that will not damage hose so that no pressure can go back up the break line when then piston is wound back.You crack the bleed nipple just enough that it only flows out when the pressure from the piston being wound back in pushes it out.Once piston is all the way back in retighten the bleed nipple,reassemble caliper etc and bleed.The reason you vent off fluid this way is not to put back pressure on the ABS,Bleeding the brakes is easier and the worst of the fluid(most stressed)is evacuated from the brake lines.Last thing top up the master cylinder with exactly the same fluid that is in the vehicle.Mixing fluids can be hazardous in respect of the ABS and seals throughout the brake system.When winding your pistons take special care as the pistons wind back in in opposite directions.

Drinking too much deisel

Hi, I would take the car straight back to the place that serviced it and report the situation to them. Ask them to read the fault codes, clear them and read them again after a short drive to "collect the new faults". If you post them here someone may be able to help you. Also, post a list of the things they "serviced".
