GM had a nasty time with security interlock during this period. I had a Colorado 2008 same issue. I found a company that made a chip that could be placed in the box next to the passenger footwell that basically told the switch to ignore the Key signal and things got better. UNFORTUNATELY I do not remember the name of the company but they are gonna pop up if you google GM Passlock .....nevermind I did it myself. ; NEWROCKIES, INC makes a gizmo that disables the system. it is 279 bucks now... twice what I paid 6 years ago, but it has a money back guarantee.... nothing to lose...good luck

SOURCE: car starts run's 3 seconds shuts down

Your car is equipped with a system called PASSKEY standard on all GM cars and light trucks, try the following procedure to reset the system, the battery being dead will trigger the system.

PASSKEY LOCKOUT RESET GM CARS 1999 UP
1) Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "ON" position. Leave it that way for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes turn the key and take it out. Repeat this process (2) more times (3 times, 30 minutes total) This should reset the passlock system to recognize your key.

If the anti-theft light is flashing then it is in theft mode. If this is the case turn the key on and wait 1 hour then cycle the key to see if it starts if it does you have a anti-theft problem see dealer. sorry.

My car sometimes won't start. It acts like it is not getting any gas

Check to see if security light on dash is on after turning key to on/start position and letting dash lights run dianosis.(after 10 to 15 seconds). Pontiac uses a security theft system which shuts-down fuel injectors when a different key is used or the Body Control Module thinks the car is being stolen. Pontiac designed this so the owner would have to bring the vehicle back to the dealer. My Grand Am did this and it cost me alot, just to have the dealer reset it.( took them 5 min.) You may have to re-learn the pcm and bcm. It's the same as the dealer re-setting them. The proceedure is (1) turn the key to the on/start position and leave there for 12 minutes.
(2) turn the key to the off position for 30 seconds.
Repeat steps 3 times.
After that the car should start.

I know this is a hassle, but it's a lot cheaper than taking it to the dealer. Hope this helps.
