My 2002 Ford Windstar has a check engine light on with the following DTC codes 181, E3, and 7E5. I used my CTools diagnostic tool to clear the codes and the light went out. Is there a sensor that needs to be replaced to prevent this from occurring again?

Your reply is amateurish and does not help me fix my problem at all. This FixYa service just needs to take me out of it's email list. I do not consider this to be an acceptable answer and refuse to pay for this level of "help".

CONSIDER THIS AS A REJECTION OF THIS ANSWER!

Hello,

DTC's can be set for a number of reasons, some as simply as a dead battery. The way to proceed when DTC's are set is to take note of the codes than erase DTC's. Then perform a test run to see if they come back noting any driving abnormalities. If the codes come back than proceed to look at probable causes.

I'm sorry you feel this way, this is how any mechanic would proceed. If you had already done this all you had to do is add one sentence stating so. Then you would have received a different response. Have a wonderful day

'98 Pontiac Grand Prix SE PO742 torque converter clutch solenoid circuit stuck on Trac off light and service engine soon light stay on

When the PCM detects 3 occurrences of TCC slip between -20 and +50 RPM for 5 seconds, indicating the TCC is applied, when commanded OFF, then DTC P0742 sets. DTC P0742 is a type B DTC.
The PCM energizes the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve Assembly (TCC Sol. Valve Assy.) by creating a ground path on circuit 422. When grounded (energized), the valve stops converter signal oil from exhausting. This causes converter signal oil pressure to increase and move the TCC apply valve. The TCC Sol. Valve Assy. de-energizes when the PCM no longer provides a ground path. When de-energized, the valve will exhaust fluid and release the TCC
Diagnostic Aids
?€¢
Check for PRNDL DTC P0705. DTC P0705 affects transmission operation. This may set DTC P0742 falsely.

?€¢
Inspect the transmission fluid for debris.

Obd code system to lean bank 1&2

Lean on Bank 2 means one side of the engine is getting less fuel or too much air. I also own a 4.0L and I work on these models for this code consistantly. Usually if you have a vacuum leak at the pcv valve hose behind the throttle body you will get a lean Bank 1 and 2.
My recommendation in these cases would be to change the PCV valve (helps with your gas milage) and the fuel filter; other than that you will have to be sure the fuel pressure is correct and there is no vacuum leaks on the driver side of the engine. I am 90 percent sure the fuel filter, pcv valve and clearing the codes will correct this issue.

ISSUE: This article is intended to aid in diagnosing DTC's P0171, P0174, P1130, P1131, P1150, P1151, P2195, or P2197 (system lean or lack of HEGO switches) when a vacuum leak is present. HEGO sensors, MAF sensors, and PCM replacements are not an effective repair when a vacuum leak is causing the above DTC's.

ACTION: Perform the following inspections/repairs when the above codes are found in memory. Procedure provides instructions on how to make comparisons of the total fuel corrections (using scan tool or equivalent) at idle and high RPM's to help determine if a vacuum leak is the root cause of the DTC's.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
NOTE FREEZE FRAME AND ADAPTIVE FUEL VALUES (ASSOCIATED WITH "LONGFT" PID) WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IF A KAM OR OBDII RESET WAS RECENTLY PERFORMED.

NOTE FREEZE FRAME DATA WILL INDICATE THE ENGINE AND AMBIENT CONDITIONS WHEN THE DTC WAS SET. THESE ARE IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE VACUUM LEAKS MAY OCCUR ONLY WITHIN SPECIFIC TEMPERATURE RANGES AND MUST BE DUPLICATED TO DETECT THE LEAK.

NOTE FUEL TRIMS AT IDLE ARE PARTICULARLY SENSITIVE TO VACUUM LEAKS SINCE THE UN-METERED AIR LEAKAGE FLOW IS A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL AIRFLOW AT IDLE THAN AT PART THROTTLE. THE BAROMETRIC PRESSURE (BP) PID IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO VIEW WHEN DIAGNOSING A VACUUM LEAK. BP IS AN INFERRED PID CALCULATED DURING HIGHER ENGINE LOADS.

Received code P1400 engine light on what would cause this code?

GMC Truck Envoy - 2WD ' Envoy, Rainier, TrailBlazer, Ascender (VIN S/T) Service Manual ' Document ID: 1655997

DTC P1400
Diagnostic Instructions
• Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
• Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
• Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor:
DTC P1400: Cold Start Emission Reduction Control System

Circuit/System Description
The catalytic converter must be warmed to efficiently reduce the emissions. The cold start strategy is to reduce the amount of time it takes to warm the catalytic converter. During a cold start, the engine idle speed is elevated and spark timing is retarded to allow the catalyst to warm quickly. This diagnostic monitors the following to build an exhaust energy model:

• Engine speed
• Spark advance
• Throttle position
• Engine airflow
• Engine coolant temperature
• Engine runtime
• Park/neutral position
• Vehicle speed

The actual model is then compared to the expected exhaust energy model.

Conditions for Running the DTC
• A cold start has been detected.
• The vehicle speed is less than 2 km/h.
• The engine is at idle with no input from the accelerator pedal.
• The airflow per cylinder is greater than 80 mg/cylinder.
• DTCs P0101, P0102, P0103, P0106, P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0120, P0121, P0122, P0123, P0220, P0222, P0223, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0205, P0206, P0300, P0335, P0336, P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0355, P0356, P0502, P0506, P0507, P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606, P0607, P062F, P0641, P0651, P1101, P1516, P1682, P2101, P2119, P2120, P2122, P2123, P2125, P2127, P2128, P2135, P2138, P2176, P2610 are not set.
• This DTC runs for 15 seconds within the first 70 seconds of start up. This diagnostic runs once per trip when a cold start has been determined.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
The actual exhaust energy model does not match the expected exhaust energy model.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails.
• The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC
• The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
• A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
• A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.
• Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids
Any loading of the engine that lowers engine RPM, such as with partial application of the clutch, during the first 70 seconds of engine run time may set this DTC.
Circuit/System Verification
Allow the engine to cool. Monitor the Cold Startup parameter. This should indicate Yes. Start and idle the engine for at least 2 minutes. DTC P1400 should run and pass.

Circuit/System Testing
• Inspect the air intake system for the following:
- If any other DTCs are set, diagnose them first. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle.
- Modified, damaged, or restricted
- Dirty or deteriorating air filter element
- Crankcase ventilation system for correct operation--Refer to Crankcase Ventilation System Inspection/Description.
- Water intrusion
- Vacuum leak and other un-metered air downstream of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor
- Intake manifold leak

• Inspect the exhaust system for the following:
- Water intrusion
- Exhaust leak
- Damaged, restricted, modified or enhanced exhaust system--Refer to Symptoms - Engine Exhaust .

1994 Chevrolet 2500 Trouble codes. I have a 94 Chevy 2500, it flashes error 3 across the dummy screen with the truck mileage. I hooked it up to a diagnostic code reader, I got the following codes: 12:...

    DTC 12 -
When terminals "A" and "B" have been connected, the ignition switch turned to the "ON" position with the engine not operating, the MIL (Service Engine Soon) should flash DTC 12 three times consequently. This will be the following flash sequence: "flash, pause, flash-flash, pause, flash, pause, flash-flash, pause, flash, pause, flash-flash." DTC 12 indicates that the control module diagnostic system is operating properly. If DTC 12 is not indicated, and a fault is present within the diagnostic system itself, it should be addresses by consulting the appropriate diagnostic chart in this section.

The MIL (SES) will indicate a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) three times if a DTC is present, or it will simply continue to output DTC 12. If more than one DTC has been stored in the control module memory, the DTC(s) will be displayed from the lowest to the highest with each DTC being displayed three times.

DTC 32 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Error
EGR open command did not change the fuel mixture when the command was given during off idle operation. EGR opening should cause the mixture to be slightly richer because of the low oxygen content of the exhaust gas. EGR position signal is also monitored to verify EGR movement.

The EGR relies on a certain amount of exhaust back pressure to work properly. Now that you have lowered the back pressure, it can't work. Have you tried a new EGR valve? You may need a service manual with an EGR diagnostic chart to make sure, but I think the duals are the problem. Plus the O2 sensor is only looking at one side of engine instead of both.

Keep in midn this procedure to Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes:
To clear the DTC's from memory of the control module, either to determine if the malfunction will occur again or because the repair has been completed, the Tech 1 Scan Tool should be used to clear the DTC's. If a Tech 1 Scan Tool is not available the following must be perform'd when all repairs have been completed. This will allow all DTC's to be cleared:
    1. Ignition "OFF."
    2. Ground diagnostic terminal "A" to "B" of DLC (Data Link Connector).
    3. Ignition "ON."
    4. Fully apply brake pedal.
    5.Fully apply accelerator pedal.
    6. Check MIL (Service Engine Soon) for DTC 12.
    7. Release brake pedal.
    8. Release accelerator pedal.
    9. Check MIL (Service Engine Soon) for DTC 12.
    10. Turn ignition "OFF."
    11. Remove Jumper from DLC connector.

NOTICE: To prevent control module damage, the key must be "OFF" when disconnecting or reconnecting module power.

    Good luck.
