2005 ford focus back-up lights not working

I have a 2005 ford focus with a manual transmition. Both back-up lights are not working. I checked the bulbs and the fuse with an ohm meter and they seem to be fine. I also bought a haynes repair manual to locate the reverse switch but found out that the manual doesn't cover my car.
Where is the back-up switch located? Is this a common problem?
Thanks for any help.
Corey.

I have the same problem. If you call your local Ford dealer, they should be able to fax you a diagram locating the actual switch. I will do this myself tomorrow. They will also be able to look up and see if there is either a recall or a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin). A recall is where they actually contact the owners to have them schedule a repair (usually safety related) where with a TSB, they wait for you to show up with the problem, and then correct it by using directions in the TSB. Have them check for both, sometimes if the problem is very common, they will fix it for free. They can look both up by the Vehicle Identification Number. The VIN is on your dash drivers side, looking down through the windshield, on the drivers side door pillar and on your registration. I work in a government service garage and deal with Ford this way all the time.
They will ask for the last eight digits of the VIN.

The switch is on the gearbox, But not sure of the exact location for your model. But guess there are not many other wired items on the gearbox.

My Ford 2005 Focus clock/radio is possessed.

Check engine light would have nothing to do with this ! Check engine light is for engine codes ! there is a problem with the radio it self ! or SJB - smart junction box , ford's BCM - body control module . You should take it to a qualified repair shop . or ford dealer !

2005 ford focus zx4 fuze diagram/ fuze diagram

No fuse? Or no slots? If 53 has little metal terminals inside the slots to accept a fuse, then fuse it! Someone pulled it out and put it into 52. If there was a previous owner who blew his heated seat fuse, maybe he traded his back-up lights for a cozy heated seat!
If, however, #53 has nothing there, like just an empty place of the fuse box-not wired, then indeed, strange. Is that the owner's manual you referred to? That should be accurate, if it's the owner's manual. Look closely at that #53
Good luck..
