I have been having problems with the alarm on my 2000 Mercury cougar . When I get close to my car the alarm will start to flicker on. Sometimes it goes on for a while, it will even do it while I am driving. I have changed the batteries in the keyless remote but it is still doing it. what can I do?

1) Turn key from OFF to ON eight times within 10 seconds ending in the ON position.

2) After doors lock then unlock, press any button on the
remote being programmed.

3) The doors should lock/unlock to confirm programming.

4) Turn key to OFF and door locks should cycle one last time.

what is anti-theft light doing? It should come on solid for about 2 sec after you turn the key on then turn off. If it is flashing after this then it is not seeing the computer chip in the key and you have a PATS problem.

I just installed a new battery in my 2000 Mercury Cougar and as soon as I attached the second battery cable the car alarm went off and the two blinker arrows on the dash are blinking. If I start the car,...

You can disengage alarm with a remote if you have one otherwise, close bonnet, all doors and lock the car by turning key completely to the left and right few times and do the same to unlock. This will dead lock and unlock the car. When you hookup the battery make sure you connect red wire first and then the black one.

My alarm wont go off not even when i start the car

Try opening and shutting the hood, and the doors, and the trunk, and activate the alarm, and then disarm the alarm,if this does not work, then the alarm system will have to be replaced, the receiver.

2000 Mercury Cougar Power door locks do not work on either door

Power door locks are on the same fuse as the alarm system. The fuse is located in the passenger compartment fuse panel under the steering wheel. There is a pull down lever that will release the fuse box. The fuse for the alarm system/locking system is #25. Yellow color and a 20 ampere rating.
