When the OD light flashes in this truck it means a malfunction has occurred in the transmission, it usually will be due to excessive slippage of the transmission based on the signal of the input and output shaft speed sensors. Here is what you need to do is have the Transmission Control Module tested for the fault code or codes that was stored when the light starting flashing, it is doubtful the valve body is the problem based on my 30 years as a Ford dealer technician.

If overdrive switch is busted replace the switch or remove the overdrive wire from the tranny. gas milage will decrease but not significant.

On my 2001 ford explorer sport trac the overdrive light is flash what the problem

Generally when the OD light flashes its stating that theres something wrong with the transmission.

Explorers were notorious for their transmissions having problems after wear and tear. Being 10 years old i wouldn't doubt that the valve body is going on it. I'd get the valve body checked out.

Be weary, if the car starts feeling like it cant accelerate but the RPM is increasing, that means your transmission is going bad.

Check Fluids for volume and color. If it looks really dirty or low, i'd add some fluid or get it flushed and see if that helps. If it doesn't the transmission will need to have its trouble code checked and have valve body looked at.

Transmision overdrive light started blinking check engine light went on tranny is slipping alittle between 2nd and 3rd gear. its got 80,000 miles and I had the tranny rebuilt at 51,000.

Many of the controls for transmissions are done electrically. If you have a "check engine" light showing, the problem is recorded in your Explorers' computer.

Both Autozone and Oreillys will scan your vehicle for free. This will show you what parts are causing the problem. Since everything is linked together there may be another part outside the transmission causing the shft problem.

It is also a good practice to check your transmission fluid with the motor warm and running. Low fluid can cause some shift problems. You would have to know what good fluid smells like to tell if your fluid is burnt. Smelling the fluid is an old fashion method to detect the health of the transmission.

You really do not have enough miles to have repeat problems with your vehicle. Once you get the codes read you will know what to do.

Overdrive light flashes on and off

This will occur if the control solenoids that are located inside the pan on the valve body, are malfunctioning. First, i would check the fluid level. if the fluid level is proper, have the tranny flushed and change the filter as well. If this doesn't fix the issue, go ahead and replace the control solenoids.

Overdrive light starts blinking

How many miles on car, have you every flushed the tranny? It sounds like a classic case of a stuck solinoid body, you can try flushing it if it doesnt have high miles, the fords are known for a heatation into reverse or drive when these start to get stuck.

1996 ford explorer

Actually, when the O/D light is flashing, the vehicle is indicating a problem within that specific system. When this happens with any system on the vehicle,a diagnostic trouble code is set in the vehicle computer's memory. What you did by disconnecting the battery was simply to erase the trouble code from the computer's memory. If the transmission feels like it is slipping,it probably is,and that's where the problem will be.You can drive the vehicle, and the code will reset again sooner or later,as will the O/D light flashing.Have the vehicle scanned when the code resets, try not to drive it very hard, because if the trans is slipping, driving it will worsen the damage/cost to repair.
