Yes it is 10 years old. the proper maintenance on a 10 year old A/C is to remove the old compressor and exchange it for a rebuilt one, then have the system recharged at a shop which does that kind of work. the whole compressor is at the end of its service life, replace the whole thing not just the clutch.

In order to start my 2001 ford ranger I need to depress the clutch or put it in neutral now when I depress the clutch the truck jumps as though the clutch is still engaged

Hello Zachary, There is only one explanation that I can come up with for your situation. If your input shaft bushing or bearing is dirty or dry , that could cause the symptom of the clutch not releasing. Usually a dry or dirty input shaft bushing or bearing will make some kind of noise when the clutch pedal is depressed when the engine is running while shifting gears.

I have a 2001 ford ranger v6 4.0sohc the air conditoning

I don't know what relay switch you are speaking of, but the is a low pressure cutout switch on the receiver/dryer. (Small black tank in passenger rear of engine compartment). It cycles the compressor on and off with changes in the low pressure side of the system. If you have to move anything to get it working, chances are you have a bad wire or connecter going to the switch. Look for looseness in the wire or burned spots near the contacts. Again, I am not sure of the switch you are talking about. What is it's location?

Noise clutch

unfortunately, I would say that the noise does indicate a throw-out bearing that is prematurely worn. Or possibly out of line. If I were in your position, I would take the truck to another mechanic that will give you a written estimate on what he/she "thinks" the problem might be. Then, I would take it to the place where you had the clutch replaced and ask them to "please make the noise go away." I hate do talk bad about mechanics, however it is likely that they did not replace the throw out bearing when they replaced your clutch. I don't know if this has helped you, but I wish you good luck
