Assuming this is a 2001 Chevy Express... standing behind the bench seat you want to remove, you will find an L shaped retaining pin at the left side of each bench seat, down in the floor, toward the rear of the seat posts. There is one for each side and they are color coded, bright blue and yellow. Lift up each of the L shaped retaining pins till they are straight up, push it to the left and remove it. If you've never pulled the seats out, they will be a bit stubborn. Once the pins are removed, either pull the seat towards the back of the van or push it from the front.. whichever gets the seat to move. They fit tight for safety and to avoid rattles. Once the seat moves, usually all at once and quite loudly, lift the seat straight up out of the floor channels. Don't set the seat on your carpet, as they are very heavy and can punch a hole if you put any pressure on it (I did that to mine). Put the colored clips back in place so they don't get lost.

Remember to make sure those seats are firmly in place and correctly latched when you put them back in. Drop them in the slots, push them towards the front of the van firmly. You should not be able to lift them up at this point. Push the pins in hard, they will be tough to push through as they align the seat correctly. You might need to tap those pins in with something heavy to get them to fully seat. Push the pins down into the floor until they latch.

How do you move the bench seat forward? It seems

There is a cable running from the lever to the latch on the passenger side and it has stretched. Feel around under the seat and you should be able to grab hold of it.Give it a yank after you have pushed the lever and it should release, letting you move the seat. I don't know if it's replaceable but you could use an emergency brake cable adjuster to shorten it so it would work. Hope this helps.

I want to make my 1999 Mercury Villager Sport into a cargo loader, with just the front seats kept and the rest of the back empty. How do I remove the other 3 seats? So far, I can't get any of them to budge...

the middle seats come out easily. There are 2 handles you have to lift up on each of the bucket seats, they are in the front of the seat down by the seat tracks. After you lift them, tilt the seat upward in the front and rotate them backward. Then lift out of the hooks. Each seat is held down by 4 hoks.

The 3rd row seat is not designed to come out xcept by a technician. It does slide forward all the way up to the front seat. It has a sliding seat track.
First, lift the T handle under the seat cushion on the left front side of the seat. This will allow you to lift the seat bottom up all the way to lcok in the full up position.
Then, lift the lever on the same side of the seat and slide the seat forward. It will stop in 4 places.
Rear -Rear
6 inches forward of that.
another two ft to the second row seating position
full frward against the front seats.

Pleae rate as fixya if this helps.

1987 GMC VanDura electric fold-down seat

If it's anything like my 1994 Vandura, you have a small panel of rocker switchers above the rearview mirror for turning your interior lights and other gadgets(tv, vcr, etc) off and on.

The leftmost switch on mine moves the electric bench seat up and down, *and* forward and back. The trick is that you have to hold it down to make it move.

With mine, even though there are four actions:
- slide seat forward
- slide seat backward
- fold seat down
- fold seat up
there is only one rocker switch.

So what you do is hold "up" on the switch and see what it does. If it slides the seat in either direction, up for your van is for both sliding forward *and* back. To do the opposite direction, just wait a second then press the same button the same way a second time.

If up makes it fold, it's the same principle. Hold the rocker switch depressed in the up position to make it fold up. Wait a moment and repeat to make it go down.

It wasn't intuitive for me either but once you know and play with it a bit it makes sense. Probably better than having four switches up there anyway :)

Good luck!
