Well upstream from the Catalatic Converter means towards the engine and that would be the location for Sensor #1 on both sides of the engine. And Downstream would be away from the engine past the Catalatic Converter For Sensor #2 on both sides of the engine. Bank 1 or Bank 2 would indicate which side of the engine the trouble is on. ( Bank #1 is the side of the engine that contains #1 Cylinder. Please remember if you are going to change one 02 Sensor then you should change all of them and be sure to clear all codes after all repairs are finished. that will turn the check engine light off. Good Luck and have a good XMASS.
The bank 1 and bank 2 sensor 1 sensors are the oxygen sensors at the exhaust manifolds Bank 1 is the driver side of the engine and bank 2 is the passenger side, sensor 2 is the post catyalitic converter oyxgen sensor
Hi, the upstream, or sensor 1 would refer to the sensor before the catalytic converter, as the downstream, or sensor 2, would be after the converter. Bank 1 is the driver side, and bank 2 is the passenger side. You have a total of 4 O2 sensors.Good luck...Coop

Oxygen sensors are always numbered like this:
Bank 1 sensor 1
Bank 2 sensor 1
Bank 1 sensor 2
Bank 2 sensor 2
Some manufacturers use a kind of shorthand that reads different, but means the same thing:
Sensor 1/1 or O2s 1/1
Sensor 2/1 or O2s 2/1
Sensor 1/2 or O2s 1/2
Sensor 2/2 or O2s 2/2
Bank 1 is always the side of the engine where cylinder number 1 is located and, of coarse, Bank 2 is the opposite side.
On a 4 cylinder engine, there is only 1 bank and it is always referred to as Bank 1.
Sensor 1 is always the upstream sensor (the one located BEFORE the catalytic converter)
Sensor 2 is always the downstream sensor (the one that is located AFTER the catalytic converter.
Hope helps (remember to rate this).
