Changing to a shorter belt will not work to eliminate the A/C, the belt still engages the A/C pulley, which will destroy the belt, you either need to replace the clutch, field and pulley, or replace the compressor with and A/C eliminator bracket and pulley. I bought a car once with a shorter belt and with a bad bearing on the A/C pulley and the belt was becoming destroyed along with the noise from the bad bearing, I replaced clutch, field and pulley and put on a new belt. Labor might cost, for either option suggested but if you live in a warm climate it is worth it in the long run.
