1994 Suzuki Samurai Logo

I have an ignition problem with my 1993 Suzuki samurai. For a couple of weeks I've had a problem with the engine cutting out while driving and not being able to bump start it again in gear while rolling, if I turned the key back and tried again it'd start. Then about a week back I came to start the engine and nothing happened apart from the starter motor turning the engine, there's no power to the dash board I.e oil light, parking break light, battery light etc or to the coil. I've removed the ignition barrel and cleaned it ( no obvious problems) I also tested this and everything connected in sequence as I turned the key. I have also tested the fuses under the dash board on the passenger side, no problems there either. About three weeks ago I bought a new battery with a higher output of power for cold starting, also because the previous battery was no good. This problem has confused me for a few weeks now and I'm running out of options, my lights, indicators and horn etc all work aswel I had this problem on a previous Suzuki of mine which was a 1991 samurai, unfortunately it was stolen before I got to the bottom of the problem. If anyone has any suggestions/solutions please let me know thanks brad.

Ignition switch is shot. If you know youre way around the steering column and want to avoid having 2 keys (1 for the doors & 1 for a new ignition) and short on cash you can go to a junkyard and get a ignition assembly (of the same make/model vehicle of course) for a fraction of what a stealership or auto parts store would charge. If it doesn't have a key no problem. The ignition switch assembly will be a cast aluminum housing. The area where all the wires are will be plastic, thats the stuff you need. If you can remove that without breaking anything you can reattach it to your problem ignition. The samurai ignition might need a narrow chisel or durable flat head screwdriver to remove from the steering column if it has the breakaway head bolts? It might have tamper resistant torx? (the star bit with a divet in the center) Or you might luck out and it has a 10mm socket head. best of luck!

How do can you roll start a 86 samurai

Engage two wheel drive. Switch on the ignition. Pull out the choke? Engage second gear and release the hand brake. Depress the clutch pedal and get the vehicle up to about 6-8 mph. Release the clutch and the engine should be turned by the rotation of the wheels - and hopefully start. Once the engine has caught, depress the clutch and keep the engine running in the normal manner.

Performance issue

Did you check the ignition timing of the engine before you fire it up? Increase in temperature with increase in load is usually caused by retarted ignition timing.
