I have a 1996 cavalier and had to bust the egnition out! The egnition will turn over with a screwdriver but wont stay running because of the antitheft on the egnition. Can you tell me how to bypass this so we can get car home without a tow bill?

Some fuses are only hot when the ignition is turned to run and some are always hot and other are hot only when the fused part is turned on. so that is not your problem
if you can`t remove by turning it counter clockwise with your hand then you can either use a screwdriver and push it through the filter and turning the screwdriver to get it to come loose then take it off with your hand or buy/rent an oil filter wrench to remove it.note with the screwdriver method you will get alot of oil spill out the are the screwdriver went in.
Check timing belt. Remove the oil filler cap and look at the rocker arm. If you get someone to turn the engine while you watch and you see no movement... it's a broken belt. If you see movement, perhaps the belt has slipped. Replace belt and re time.
Most local parts stores like Autozone or Advance auto will check the trouble codes for free and help you get the parts you need to fix whatever is causing the engine light to come on.
great problem this ,either put a big screwdriver through a hole and jam it up ,if no hole or offrice then use a big pair of super snap on water pump pliers
Sounds like your security is staying on.Try locking the car with the remote keys then unlocking If that doesnt work lock car again and unlock it with key in passenger side door..These should solve your problems if not tell me what you got after doing those things..
Need to actually, physically, check spark.Pull a plug wire off the plug, insert a medium size phillips head screwdriver into the spark plug wire boot, making sure it clicks in and engages.Lay the screwdriver's metal shank about a 1/4" from a metallic ground source (not the fuel line).Have someone crank the car over while you are looking for an arc between the screwdriver and ground. No arc...no spark...cheap easy way to check for spark and eliminate or not,the ignition system.
