1994 ford ranger with 4.0 v-6 engine 137k miles Idle is rough and engine light is on. Hissing sound under the hood. Engine wants to die if it sits at idle too long. It seams to smooth out at higher rpm. Plugs, ignition wires, fuel filter and air cleaner have all been changed recently. Fuel injector cleaner added to gas approx. every 2-3k

You most likely have a vacuum leak. Look for a loose vacuum hose that didn't get replaced after last service. Find the source of the hiss and you'll find the leak. Read this post on some tips:

SOURCE: 1994 ford ranger extended cab 6 cyl fuel injected 2 wheel drive automatic

This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block.
Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.

SOURCE: 2005 Ford Escape Rough Idle - engine code state lean fuel mixture

I recommend getting a repair manual from an auto store for your vehicle. They run $15 to $20. It will tell you exactly how to do everything you asked and also give you the values that should be expected. Hope this helps.

2000 Ford F-150 4x4 4.6 engine, automatic transmission. What are the symptoms for a vacuum leak intake manifold vacuum leak on it.

A vacuum leak in the intake manifold of a 2000 Ford F150 4x4 with a 4.6L engine and automatic transmission can cause a range of symptoms, including:
  1. Rough idle: A vacuum leak can cause the engine to run rough at idle, which may be especially noticeable when stopped at a red light or stop sign.
  2. Misfires: The engine may misfire or hesitate under load, such as when accelerating or climbing a hill.
  3. Poor fuel economy: A vacuum leak can cause the engine to run lean, which can result in decreased fuel economy.
  4. Check engine light: A vacuum leak can trigger a check engine light, which may indicate a code related to the engine's fuel system.
  5. Stalling: In some cases, a vacuum leak can cause the engine to stall or die, especially at idle or when coming to a stop.
  6. Hissing sound: A vacuum leak may cause a hissing sound to be audible from the engine compartment, especially if the leak is large or near the intake manifold.
If you suspect a vacuum leak, it's important to have it diagnosed and repaired as soon as possible, as it can cause damage to other engine components over time if left untreated. A mechanic can perform a smoke test or other diagnostic procedures to locate the source of the leak and repair it as needed.

1994 Ford Ranger low power

Ok, it sounds as though your fuel pressure regulator or injector lines or injectors are leaking. What engine is in the vehicle? Is the engine light flashing? Does it start hard and blow smoke on startup?

1994 Ford Ranger Starts runs for 3-4 minutes then dies, changed ignition mod, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, checked vac hoses, totally lost!!!!!

As with any no-start or stall problem you will need to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition issue.
The high idle usually means you have a vac leak or a problem with the throttle body or idle air control valve. The control valve is how the computer controls the idle speed.
You'll need to watch the fuel system and spark to see which is being affected when the engine dies.
You might want to hook a test light up to the coil to see if it is loosing voltage for example.

After my 94 ranger heats up, about 3-4 miles, it starts runniing very rough and stalls when I decelerate

Your torque converter lock-up solenoid is sticking in the "Locked-up" position.

When you accelerate past 1st gear (into 2nd), your transmission "locks-up" to the engine
