Doesn't the power run through a thermostat?

Might need a new battery. Thats what it sounds like it could be something else. I have a 98 subaru and i had the same problem and went and got a new battery and it worked fine. try the new battery and if that works good if not sorry.

Even if it works ( it don't ) I would put a new half shaft on the 93 S-R.

If you have no other symptoms other than a faulty reading then it can be 2 things, leaking ignition high voltage wires or a faulty tach, i would go with the tach.

just follow the wires that cnnect to the speedometer light and screw to change bulb . thesame as to the tachnometer light there also is awire connected to it .

they are usually one and the same box fuse...you might try putting in a new one

Probably a short or loose connection between battery and starter motor, or on either end of cables. Id look there before swapping out starter.On cold days you might put a heater under car for a few hours before using it,do this carefully as to avoid a car fire, or look into a block heater for your engine.
