I don't know if your truck uses this method but several vehicles I have owned would turn on the electric cooling fan to combat the natural temperature rise that occurs in the engine once the coolant is not circulating anymore.
This prevents hard starting in a hot engine and if the thermostatic switch fails that controls the fan, the cooling (and turn-on) doesn't happen.
This may be your problem.

if it is burning rich, there for it will be over fueling around low rpm i do belive, which will cause the engine to flood, im guessing after you have been low rpm then go for high rpms, it like hesitaes and takes abit of a cough then goes, if that is the case then it is overfueling.
there is a way to advance/****** the engine mixture, but id say for safe if you don't know what your doing to take it do a garage, and ask for it to be timed up with the timing strobe light :) which will stop the, over fuelling around low rpms.

Sounds like the switch on the clutch pedal needs adjusted. Is the floor mat bunched up under the pedal, I've seen that. It could also be dirty ground connections. There are several. Not only the battery ground but smaller ones also. A bad ground can mean low voltage to the ECM and injectors. Does the start solenoid click. If it does may be bad battery connections on either end. If it doesn't may be bad connections in the small wires to the solenoid. The alternator could be consuming the available connections when the battery is recharged from starting then the ECM and injectors can have enough. Why it would run rough for a while. The first place to look is always the electrical connections. A lot of people have paid for new starters because of bad connections. I had a friend kept buying alternators from his trusted mechanic because somebody had removed the ground wires from his engine to the chassis. (This was before he asked me to look at it. Of course!)

I had a similar problem; the engine would start stumbling around 30-35 mph. If the distributor cap, plugs, and wires does not solve it, try the Spark Pickup Coil. If you look under the hood and atop the driver's side wheel well (for the 22RE engine), it's the cylinder shaped object that is bolted to the wheel well. Replacing this fixed it for me. Bought one from a salvage yard; cost was $60.
