Check the gas cap vent. If it's plugged, that could affect fuel flow. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed? It could be loaded up and causing too much of a pressure drop; this would be exacerbated by vent problem.

2005 pontiac sunfire car started sputtering lights went dim and all warning lights went on shut car off and now will not start back up

Car no start problem is sometimes very difficult to confirm. You try all the possible things, but still you get no fault and problem is still the same.--------
In that case, you need to check few things individually.
Check the spark, the battery, the crank, the fuel and other most possible parts. Click this link below for more details:-- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/10/car-troubleshooting-tips.html

My 2000 2.4 Sunfire hesitates when accelerating,

hello there my friend, these cars have a lot of problems with the coil pack, its the complete cover above the cams/valve covers, these area is very hot and these coil pack is from a plstic material so it often cracks and spark starts to escape all over from the inside part so it fails to fire the cylinders and stalls or hesitates, these condition gets worse under load, most times you can hear the spark jumping to a close ground or visualy inspect the coil pack for cracks or burnt traces replace it if you see these symptoms, good luck
