Was it knocking in the radiator when it over heated if so you most likely got an air lock in the system by pouring the new antifreeze in to fast. You need to add it real slow and once you think the radiator is full start the truck and let it warm up and leave the radiator cap off until the thermostat opens and then add more antifreeze because when the stat opens the level will go lower. Once you are sure the antifreeze is circulating an full then you can go drive the truck. Some people use a 50 percent mix of antifreeze to water but I always use 100 percent antifreeze it runs cooler.

hi from uk when engine temp is hot and heat set on max openhood and physically feel both heater hoses for temps ? if one is hot/warm and other cool ? then coolant is not circulating thro the heater matrix(radiator) as you have renewed most parts suspect without success? may i suggest your actual circulation thro the matrix is most likely to be the heater coolant valve which is elec operated as you turn the heat selector in dash both heater hoses connect to this for open/close to matrix of coolant so if valve is failed it is not servicable ? and not to difficult to locate if you follow h/hoses to heater ensure there is power to the actual valve b4 you consider replacing valve easy diy and not too expensive ? hope this helps you ?

replace the heat controls in the dash, just og to the junk yard and get a new one, you can actually replace this yourself.
where the unit is, you have to remove all of the botls around it, just feel around for them and unscrew them. this will loosin the panel, pull the panel off, adn you will see there is 4 screws holding the heat controls in, unscrew them, and pull the control out, you will have to unplug a couple of plugs and undo a hard wire form the top, it is frustrating, but you have to hold the hard wire and turn the control tword the pasenger side of the car to pop it out, it is possible there is a clip holding itdown, if so just push on the bottom of the clip and it will pop out. and do the same to put the new one in.

try to run the water pump without hoses, and add water in the 'in' side, if is powers out the other side, then it's fine. how is your water/coolant mix?

Very common fault is head gaskets. causing coolant consumption and bubbles in radiator. Run vehicle, have a friend accelerate once or twice hard, while you smell exhaust for sweet smell of burning coolant.

Your Grand Am only has the reservoir to add coolant to, there is no radiator cap. If the car overheated again, yes, you may not have put enough coolant in, or you've got a very bad leak somewhere.
Check under the vehicle for evidence of coolant. A leak can be difficult to find, as the coolant is blown around by the engine cooling fan, and just the speed involved in driving on the highway. You can check for leaks from above. If u find no evidence (best time to check is right after driving the car and it's at normal operating temp.) jack up the car, put on safety stands, block the wheels, and look under the engine for leaks. It could be the water pump, a hose, the radiator. Dry off wet areas w/ a rag (careful, everything is hot) and try to see where the origin of the leak is. Good Luck, let me know what u find.
