Hi and welcome to FixYa!
Try spraying wd40 on the door lock mechanism inside the door shell. It may just be a little stuck and lubrication can help.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
Testimonial: "Many thanks. That was quick."
So sorry but the WD 40 had no effect. I have afeeling that the on board computer has got
something to do with it. Many thanks any way Best regards Bernard.
I spoke to a mechanic friend about the very same problem i have. He's a 4x4 specailsit - as soon as i started to describe the fault, he has said its the locking mechanism. apparently they're electronically controlled and require a new component. £100 plus fitting. Worth it just to stop the faffing around first thing in the morning when its pitch-dark!! Hope this helps you

I absolutely hate my freelander. I also have a drivers door problem and have been told that a replacement lock is necessary. I used the key for about six months and that has packed up as well so my suggestion is don't rely on the key for too long. This must be the worst 4 wheeled vehicle that has ever been produced anywhere in the world and it's British! I've had it since new and can't afford any thing else but if I sold it I'd probably get done for selling rubish.
