1998 Saturn will not start. Battery connections are clean. No clicking noise, simply won't start. All electrical works. I turn the key to start position and nothing happens, no sound...nothing, Thank you.

Try an old fashioned boost from another car using booster cables.or use a battery charger and allow it to charge for 30minutes. either way you choose,if you choose the boost off allow the booster car to run while cables are connected to your car battery, your battery may just be completely dead. after connecting the cables, positive to positive, and negative to negative, allow the booster car to run for 10minutes before you attempt to start your car.this will allow time for your car battery to slightly charge enough to start.if this does'nt work then check for a bad starter.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Ok i had this problem.... on the drivers side, by ur right leg there is a plastic panel.... take it off and there will be a big group of wires.. where they all connect jiggle them a little bit ,it should work... its the same wire that causes the ding (its just loose) when a door is open with the key in also, it controlls the door locks

2004 Saturn ion. Car won’t start. Battery seems to be good, cuz all dash lights come on. Car won’t crank.

Does the starter make a noise when you crank it? If not, first make sure you have 12+ volts in the battery and good battery connections. If the battery has less that 9 volts, then replace the battery. Try using a jumper box or a set of jumper cables from another vehicle to start the car. If you can see the starter, have someone strike it with a hammer while turning the key to the crank position. If it starts, replace the starter.

I have a 2001 saturn L100 sedan Battery is new and fully scharged. when key is turned on all lights and electronics flicker and the starter clicks. first appears to be battery because of the flickering...

Hello, It sounds like you have loose battery cables or very corroded cables. If that don't help then you have a loose electrical connection. It could be on the starter, If the cable ends and bolts are corroded the clean with baking soda mixed with water (don't) get any in the battery, You can clean the battery where the cables connect) Hope this helps.

1998 Toyota Camry --- car intermittenly won't start -- doesn't click like a bad starter but simply won;t turnover like the battery is dead - eventually it starts - brand new battery 1 month old??

When the bushes in a starter get worn, it can cause the armature to rub on the magnetic poles (poleing) This can cause the starter turn slow or not at all
The sintered metal bushes are like bearings. Not to be confused with carbon brushes which are the electrical connectors.
When a starter clicks, it is the solenoid you can hear.supplying power through the brushes.

A starter that is poleing, often stops in a place where it isnt rubbing, and works fine the next start.
There can be other problems with a starter , perhaps one of the brushes is sticking, or the solenoid.
When it happens a tap with a hammer on the starter or solenoid, while a friend turns the key, is enough to get it working( this isnt a fix but might get you started in an emergency)

There is also the possibility of a loose or dirty cable connection, from when the new battery was installed

Maxima will not do anything but click once when I turn the key.

I have this problem right now also. Here is the deal as I see it. I have a 97 Saturn SC2 automatic (nuuf said!).
Against my intuition I let the guy at Autozone talk me into a battery, though I suspected the solinoid or the starter motor itself.
Put in the new batt and nothing but a single loud click. I took the new battery back and used the refund money to get a new starter.
I put it in and still just a loud click. I have cleaned the terminals and torqued the cable at the batt and starter.Because the solinoid clicks when I turn the key I am asuming (for now) that the ignition switch, neutral saftey switch and the "Startguard" (the little electric key you have to put in for your car to start) is good. In my knowlege, it has to be the main battery cable that runs from the battery to the starter. Next I'm gonna go out there and turn my key to the on position and connect a jumper cable from the battery directly to the starter solinoids high current side to confirm or bust my suspicion of the bad positive (red) battery cable. I will let you know how it goes.
