Hi, with thse symptoms, the most likely cause is a failed connection or dimmer switch, but the headlight switch is also a possibility. Your dimmer switch is integrated into the control wand. I cannot seem to find the instructions for removing the wand, but I think you remove the clamshell from the column and then unscrew the wand assembly from the column. You can test the switch by leaving the cable attached and back-probing the connector with a 12 volt test light or voltmeter. The light green wire should be hot when the headlights are turned on. Leave it on and then probe the red and purple wires. The purple wire should be hot when the switch is on low beam. The red wire should be hot when the switch is on high beams or flash position. If there is no power on the green wire, the headlight switch has failed or the green wire is disconnected or loose. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

The back light bulb is going. replace bulb and make sure the fuse is fine but if it is rusty, then change it

Left brake lite doesn't work AND the tail lite goes off

Hi Ahunley, Sounds like you have cross the connection wires to the unit ( positive to earth & earth to positive) Try swapping the connectors over.

Hope this works.

1985 Chevy 1/2 ton

If you have no dash lites< I would suggest checking either of the following as thse are the most common problems 1) chec your fuses 2) test the headlite switch, as for the brake lites I would again check the fuses and then move on to the brake lite switch and see if there is power going into the switch and coming out of the switch with the brake pedal depressed, if not it's the switch if there is power trace the wire back to the brake lites checking all connections in between for power. Finally test the lite pig tail ( socket ). Good luck and rember to rate all the solutions that you get on FixYa, thanx
