I recently changed the oil in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cheroke. I want to re-set the computer to remind me of the next oil change in 3000 miles. How do I do that?

Depending on your model your owners manual should have instructions that guide you through the process. To reset the oil monitor in my jeep the dash has a menu button you scroll through until you get to the oil life then you press step until you scroll through the options you need like 3000, 4000, 5000 miles. it will ask if you want it reset and you press yes. Its very simple.

I dont have an owners manual for my 2004 jeep grand chreokee and I recently had my oil changed and not sure how to reset the perform service reminder.

If you press and hold (at least 3 seconds) the button (overhead) that you use to change what is displayed overhead it should reset the perform service reminder.

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee and lately the "preform service" alert has been coming on when i start the car. I recently did a oil change is there any thing else it could be?

Yes. that alert indicates that your car's internal computer has detected one or more errors. In order to find out what these error codes are, the computer must be scanned. Dealerships usually charge quite a bit to do a scan. Recently AAMCO repair shops have been offering scans for free. Also many auto parts stores scan for free. When you do get it scanned be sure to ask the techie to reset the computer. Joe

4 thumbs up please. ty.

The scheduled maintenance light has turned on. What do I need checked/replaced?

For the above head computer display, press the STEP button until you see the screen indicating that there's 0 miles remaining for scheduled maintenance. Then press and hold the reset button until that value returns to it's default state. This alarm is simply a mileage count down alarm to remind you of oil changes, air filter changes, etc. Resetting it will clear the alarm.

Main screen in car states 0.00 Miles to Service. "Perform Service"

If this was not reset at last oil change interval then it may come on between oil changes. Generally this is a reminder to change your oil.

When I start the vehicle, there are several beeps and then ''Perform Service'' is displayed for a few seconds on the screen (then goes off). The car didn't come with a manual so I'm not sure what type of...

This is a "reminder" chime to let you know to change the oil. It is set to chime after reset and 3000 miles. It is not connected to the condition of oil, just a timer. When it goes off again just hit the reset button. Probably need to change your oil and then hit the reset button.

What does perform service message mean?

This is a oil change reminder. Nothing fancy about, when you get your oil change go into the menu and click reset counter and it will go off. If there was something wrong with your car the check engine light would come on.

Perform service jeep grand cherokee 2005 this message is appearing in the message center

Actually the newer cherokees are a little more complicated, it's not a reminder for an oil change. It is for an emssions service that should be performed according to the dealer. Here is the rest procedure

Turn ignition to on position, but do not start.
Depress brake pedal fully twice.
depress excellerator very slowly twice
Turn ignition off & that will reset the perform service indicator.
I am mechanic & we are getting frustrated because the dealers do not want to release this info to anyone, they want your money! Can you believe if you did not get them to perform the service they charge you a 1 hour shop rate??
