Have a 1999 Chev. Suburban. Problem is with brake lights. Top panel (on roof) works but neither side panel works. Replaced circut boards in tail lights, new bulbs, and all fuses are good. What next?

WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER, TEST ALL THE FUSES FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD & INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUSES ARE ALL GOOD WITH THE TESTER YOU MUST HAVE A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT GOES UP THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH & THEN TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS. FIRST OF ALL IS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOOD ? THE ORANGE WIRE FEEDS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, THE WHITE WIRE PUTS POWER TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS TURN LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. , PUT A TESTER IN THE WHITE WIRE & PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD, BY THE WAY THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE MAY BE LABELED" STOP", THE FUSE LABELED" BRAKE" IS FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. TO CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FOR BRAKE LIGHTS, REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FROM UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TESTER IN THE SMALL YELLOW WIRE, THEN THE SMALL GREEN WIRE. IF THERE IS NO POWER IN EITHER WIRE, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD.

This article was very helpful tracking down my brake lights not working with the third light working fine. I do have one more try this before you give up, because it happened to me. After you have checked all the above check your hazard lights switch. On mine if I wiggled the hazard switch back and forth I could make the brake lights go on and off with the brake pedal depressed. Hope it helps someone out there.

Have a 99 suburban 4x4 , all three back brake lights do not wrk

I was having the exact same problem as my brake switch was fine on my 95 suburban. However upon further inspection the problem was very simple i felt really dumb once i found this: the wire harness that comes away from the switch witch is a bundle of white wires that comes down and across the under side of the steering column had 2 damaged wires upon repairing this i have had no problems since then feel free to email me on this problem at [email protected] as i will do my best to help u out. But the problem is most likely a wire short out, or damaged wires for the normally open circuitfor your brake switch.

I have taken my car to many shops to solve this problem. Long story short your tail light has a bad circut and entire lamp must be replaced. (Lamp cost approximate $130.00)

Brake lights not working

Having the sa but haven't replaces the brake switch. The owner's manual for my 99 accord indicates the the fuse is located behind a panel that is viewable when you open the door on the driver's side. There is a panel that you remove (pull off) to expose the fuses. The brake light fuse is the third one from the top on the left. 7.5 A

98 Suburban Brake and hazard lights don't work

Check for power and ground at the two panel lights. GM uses a cheep circuit board design, they overheat and corrode on the other side of the board. not serviceable.

Tail lights don't work on 1998 Chevy Silverado.

check the wiring from the tailights back to the fuse panel, it sounds like an open connection. if i recall correctly check under the dash on the drivers side near the fuse panel for a bunch of wires in a bundle and look carefully for a wire or two that are cut/shorted/or seperated, you can also check under the drivers side kick panel by the hood release.

check the brake light switch on the pedal first, if thats ok, check the tail lights again, where the bulb holders twist into the panel on the circut board connectors normally deterioate. cheers mike.
