Could be the fuel pump... letting the fuel drain out of the lines so it has to refill when you crank it. Try turning the ignition switch on for about 10 seconds and back off. Then do it again... several times. This will purge ahe air out of the lines. See if this helps. Mike

Have you checked for fault codes? Has the fuel pressure been checked? Does it start if you spray starting fluid into the air intake of the engine?

My 1989 Chevy S-10 Blazer has died now three times at a traffic light. each time it has started up roght away, but the third time it would't. It had gas and the starter was trying, but it wouldn't...

No one can honestly say what is wrong. But I can tell you of a few things to check.
When it dies and won't start try to find out if its missing fuel or spark.
The first thing I would suspect is something ignition related. The ignition module can be an item that has intermitent problems. Auto Zones can test those and for free. Its located under the distributor cap. Don't forget to use a heat sink paste when installing an ignition module.

Check the connections on top of the Throttle Body. Those injector plugs sometimes break and can pop off the injector or the wires can short under the air cleaner if they have been pinched. This does not usually cause an intermitent issue but can. Listen for the fuel pump to work when you fist turn the key on.

Also if there is an alarm and it disbales the vehicle from being started that could very well be it.

Motor will start 2 times and die as soon as key is let off , then starter is dead on third try - will not start till car is left for a long period of time / dealer can't find problem - replaced battery,...

I have the same problem on my T &C 1998, There is a lose solder connection in the behind the dash, instrument cluster. I found that pounding the dashboard once gets it going again. Hint, if you see the gear display ( P N D 1 2 ) lit up you are good to go. If you don't see it lit up with the ignition on, give the dash a god pounding with your fist, works for me every time. I actually had the van towed twice and as soon as it was at the dealer it cranked up. Good luck, MJ
