you need a repair manual, Haynes or Chilton, there are too many places to explain here in this format, if you can not find these book at your local parts store, then try your local library, then sometimes even have the dealer shop manuals for your use, hope this helps

Where is the thermostat located on a 1997 ford Taurus SHO?

Trace the top radiator hose back to the engine. Where it ends is the thermostat housing. You'll have to drain your radiator, remove the radiator hose at the housing on the engine side, then there's usually 2 bolts that hold the housing on. remove the housing, remove the thermostat Noting which direction the thermostat is sitting, replace with the new one in the same position, put a new gasket on the thermostat housing and reverse your steps to put it back together. NOTE**** DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING BOLTS*** if you strip them or snap them off you will be looking at a major repair bill.

To remove the radiator on a 98 ford taurus se, do I have to remove the front bumper?

The front bumper will usually not help at all, as most radiators are mounted rearwards of the radiator support. The radiator also would not ba able to pass through the A/C condenser, if you have A/C. The radiator comes out upwards from where it is installed.
