All are adjustable within limits..... really need year and model.
There is a height sensor on the roll bars, front and rear.
On the 500 and 600SL this is a very sophisticated digital logic system which is VERY expensive.
If it raises to normal when engine is running, you may need spheres replaced..subject to system design.
Hydraulic systems run at 500 to 800 psi in the lines and spheres are pressurized to 2,700 psi.
They only last about 6 years before needing replacement..
Air type system is different and uses sensors in the strut top and leg of suspension.
Mercedes is well equipped to locate your fault unless you find a shop with a StarTek or Launch scanner.
I do not see those models here in the States. ...but a little research pulled up problems we do see here with springs and spring perches ripping away from the welds...
...............................................................................Front springs, not common to break but certainly not unknown - athough Mercedes and springs have never been without their problems.! .......................Check inside/under the front fender/wheel arches and look at the bottom of the strut spring. You may find a break in the lower coils...............failing that a trip to Mercedes is called for to make sure any broken spring does not work it's way out and rip the tyre.............this has happened here many times......don't let Mercedes tell you they have never seen/heard of this before.
