Hi, I have a 2007 Edge SEL Plus, and after highway driving and coming to a stop at traffic lights I smell burning oil and see a little smoke coming from under the hood, I only have 28k on the vehicle and get oil changes regularly.

mostly when Engine oil is changed or topped up
little oil get dropped and when engine heats up. it burns the oil.
but once oil is burnt then no more smoke is there.

Check with a diagnostic scan tool for module fault codes and sensor fault codes. If nothing comes back complete electrical circuit prove out.

Have you changed the engine oil recently or poured any product into the crankcase like STP or LUCAS Oil products? If so then some of that product may have dripped down the valvecover and on to the exhaust manifold. Another theory might be your transmission. Have someone follow behind you while you are driving those "5 miles" to see if any smoke is coming from under the car when you drive, if so then you might have a transmission oil leak that a 2007 Mazda might have.

It's probably OK to drive. I imagine they failed to get the oil filter properly seated and you're getting a little leak there. DO BE SURE to check the oil level before you drive it and add if necessary.

More then likely, it is a fluid of some type. I would say it is oil burning on the engine. Besides a smell and a little smoke, it shouldn't hurt anything. It would mean you have a leak of some kind though.

Have Wheel Speed Sensors checked

Any codes? Tune up, fuel filter and air, dirty throttle body.

I would try to tighten the valve covers. If they seep a bit because of loose little bolts that is directly above the exhaust manifold which would give a whiff of smoke.

lot of snow will do that !! means that you have dehydration of snow/metled snow on the exhaust manifolds should clear up once the roads are clear also check the valve cover gaskets for oil leaks
