2001 Buick Regal, 3.8L, 98,000 miles: Car will not go past 55 mph, it seems to lose power. If I try to accelerate to go faster, the rpms go from about 2000 to 3000, but the car does not go faster. If I set the cruise control at 55 mph and bump up the speed, I can get to 70 - 75 mph without any problems. Car seems sluggish, especially when going uphill. Car always starts ok and idles fine. I've replaced the fuel filter, transmission fluid seems ok, air filter is ok. Any suggestions as to what the issue is?

I have a 2001 Buick Regal w/77,000 miles. When I accelerate into a turn it bogs down, now it's bogging down any time I accelerate, especially when getting on the freeway. With the economy the way it is, I cant afford to put it in the shop. Its been a great car w/no problems until now.

when putting in drive it seems to stutter and rpms go to 3000 I take foot off accelerator and it goes into road driving gear and seems to drive ok. I had oil change and fuel filter changed and this started the next day.

Check the Catalytic Converter . sometimes they will plug and no allow as much airflow at the higher rpms when you downshift.

95 Regal 3.8 Runs great but today started

Try a new distributor cap and rotor button, they are known problem areas. If the problem is not in the distributor then you will likely need to replace the catalytic converter,a plugged converter will not let the engine get to full horse power because it can't get rid of the fuel as fast as it is coming into the engine, which is not a problem for the engine at lower rpms but it is a problem when you need the power.

Car accelerates without pressing gas pedal

I had a similar problem with a K5 Blazer, where the gas pedal had a plastic pivot point in the linkage. After about 60K miles, the pivot developed a burr that locked the gas pedal open and kept the vehicle about 60 MPH. If I kicked the pedal to knock it off the burr, it would then slow down. Try it...

most likely it is not actually a misfire it is the overdrive/TCC solenoid kicking on and off, it is a common GM transmission issue

Diagnosis needed for car repair

You problem seems to be an output speed sensor or some other type of sensor. As for the timing belt I would recomend replacing it before it does go bad.
