With the engine off, put your foot on the brake pedal and press down. The pedal should go nowhere. With foot still pressing on pedal, start the car. The pedal should move down. If not, could be an issue with the servo such as a cracked / leaking air hose or an issue with the master cylinder seals.
I know this might seem silly but seen it a number of times in the shop, make sure nothing like double floor matts or newspaper is causing your stiff gas pedal. Open hood with engine off and manually play with accerlator and see if it binds. if you have one person in seat and another under hood that's under way of checking if its a mechanical or electrical issue
There are several possible reasons. Obvious ones might be checking for fuses that are burned out. Second would be making sure you are getting good connections to your brake lamps (all 3). Third, check the brake light switch at the pedal. And last, Volvo Part Number 9442303 is a brake lamp failure relay that can go bad. It's not inexpensive, but probably more than likely the issue. One way to check is to find out if your cruise control works. If it does not, it is likely the relay. It is grey and flat on all sides. Earlier model Volvos had round red ones. Check the location in the service manual.
howdie could be lots of things that could have happen did you tighten your gas cap tight did you go threw lots of water did you hit the gas pedal hard what l suggest is see if things change other wise pull positive post of for 1hr then put it bk on if don,t come on its fixed other wise ck to local garage for a ck get a quote
You have a sensor around your brake pedal that tells your lights to come on and off!! Hint: also cause of brake lights sticking on! Try replace this sensor and you should be good to go!!
