In order to repair this problem you will need, a steering wheel puller, a steering wheel lock plate tool, a phillips #2 screwdriver, a 5/16" deep socket and ratchet, atilt knuckle pin puller and a #15 & #25 torx bits.

first remove the steering wheel, then the sterring wheel lock plate, then remove the 3 phillips screws that are holding the trun signel switch and the 1 phillips screw that is holding the turn signal lever to the switch and pull up on the turn signal switch( you will not be able to remove it just lift it high enough to get to the stuff under the switch) you will see 3 #25 torx head screws and 1 #15 torx head screw remove the #15 and slide the key assy. out of the collom then remove the 3 #25 torx head screws, and remove the tilt handle it just screws into the collum, then slide the top housing off of the collum it will just hang on the wires to the turn signal switch. now if you look down the inside of the collum you will see 4 inverted torx #8 you will be able to get to 3 of the four at tis point but if you want to tighten the last screw you will need to split the tilt knuckle. do this by pulling the tilt pins in the each side of the knuckle and removong the top of the knuckle. be very carefull with this step because you can do perment damage to the collum if you arnt very carefull......let me know if there is any thing else you may need, by the way you can get all the tools a autozone.......GOOD LUCK

Tilt steering wheel seemed to loosen up at about 100k miles--about 1 inch play. Texas says its safety issue. Suggest repairs?

Pull the steering column apart and tighten the tilt coupling. Take care to disarm the Airbag system before you begin work on removing the steering wheel. Since you did not provide the make, or model I can't help any further.

Loose or damaged wiring in the steering colum. I'd suggest having a professional repair done, most likely the steering wheel will have to be removed and there's a chance of setting off the airbag. Dangerous and expensive.

Streering wheel will flop around 360d after the Tilt section, goodyear says clock spring, but cant find a clock spring in any manual I read. Truck is a 95 F150 Supercab 4wd 5.8l. Tilt, cruise, and a...

The "clock spring" is a slang term used to describe the round electrical contact below the steering wheel inside the steering column, that transfers the switch contacts in the steering wheel to the actual vehicle. Your problem is more than likely the bearing in the top half of the steering column. Disconnect the battery and remove the air bag and steering wheel nut, steering wheel, and electrical switches, then look at the mechanical bearings or bushings at the steering shaft and case unit, the problem should be visible at this point. Hope this helps, let me know.

I have a 1981 Corvette with tilt steering wheel. The steering wheel has started flopping like something is loose in the steering column. Whats going on? Thanks Jim

You must remove the steering cowl below the steering wheel and see what is loose, broken or worn. It more likely to be a loose bolt, in which case just tighten it and refit the cowl.
Hope that helps

My 2005 DeVille's tilt steering wheel will not move. It is a mechanical lever (not power). when depressed the tilt mechanism doesn't seem to engage. the lever moves but the steering wheel cannot be...

There is no secret button. It sounds like the linkage between the tilt lever and the tilt mechanism inside the steering column has come loose, or the mechanism is jammed. If that's the case, it's a complicated job to repair it, and because of the air bag in the wheel housing, should only be done by a qualified shop.

I removed the tilt steering colum housing to instal a new cruise

The plastic piece goes between the steel rod and cruise/wiper lever. You will have to remove the wheel and the upper bearing housing to get it back where it goes. If you put some wheel bearing grease on it then it will stay in place during reassembly.. Good Luck

Telescopic Steering wheel won't move down - I hear a gear spinning

Open the gear motor on the left hand side of the telelscopic assembly. Take the plate off held by 4 philips screws. Using a 10mm socket, remove the bolt holding the platic gear. Remove plastic gear and insert the reverse way. Over the years, one side of the gears get worn out.
