I have a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire with a 2.2L motor. It runs great considering how old it is. Last week I started it up and several of my dash lights stayed on. They are: The oil light, the battery light, the coolant light, the Theft System light and the light that comes on when my running lights are on. Also, my RPM gauge stopped working, as did my temperature gauge. The lights are still on and the gauges still don't work, but it is running still.

Usually a ground that goes to the battery pan... usually the battery pan is rusted beyond repair. Easy repair is removing the ground, then going from the ground part of the battery to a bolt on the fender. That usually clears this up.

Sounds to be the dash itself. there is a chip in there and it sounds like it shorted out. You have to replace the panel. Junk yard would be best and cheapest.

I have a 2003 pontiac sunfire that runs hot and then is fine for a couple weeks . have put it in the shop several time .Any ideas?

Difficult...

Running hot would come down to a blocked radiator, a collapsed hose, a faulty temperature sensor or a cylinder head/gasket problem.

it could also be the gauge or even a bad earth on a temperature sensor.

Does your car exhibit any signs of overheating .. steam .. boiling radiator ... rough running?

It's strange that it runs fine for a couple of weeks and then runs hot. To me that suggests a temperature sensor/thermostat problem coupled with the outside air temperature.

What did the workshop suggest?

How do you replace the water sensor on a 1999

There are several. One sensor operates dash light. One tells the ECU engine temp. One tells when radiator is low. The two temp sensors are probably on the top of engine near the thermostat. Parts stores have component location charts that may help you.

Replaced the air filter in my 2003 sunfire and found oil in the housing to the compartment. Is this normal or is there a problem?

I would not consider this normal. I would start by making sure the PCV system is operating correctly.

Have a 1999 pontiac sunfire and it has been a great little car but the last couple of days it has been acting funny. All the gauges have been going haywire, and when I shut it off and restart they are o.k....

Hi there. It sounds a little like the car was running only on the battery , as the alternator may be or has failed. Check the battery for proper voltage (12.01 and up) If the battery is good , then check all the battery connections, and grounds to the vehical chassis. If you can please get back with the results, Thank you , Quinn Texada.

1999 pontiac sunfire over heats vents blowing cold air

Take the inlet & outlet hose off of the lines feeding your heater coil, where it come off the motor. Do you have good pressure on your water supply to your house????? If Yes. Flush the water thru the heater hose backwards from the diterction that the water normly flows from your car motor. Alot ot the time your heater core will just be plugged up and need to be backflushed. Also make sure that you do not have trash/ leaves in your heater box?????
You can also later on after flushing the H-core out, you can flush your motor, radiator & heater coil by dropping everything out and add water plus 1-can of old style Comett. This is very abrassive!!!! Run the motor for about 1-hour. Then drop all of it out. Put just water back into the system and run again about 10-minutes.Do this flushing about 3-times. You will see how clean your radiator will be, plus the cooler your motor will run.
