Our 2002 Bravada's key is stuck in the ignition and will not turn on. The care acts dead but the battery is good. The car will not shift, nothing happens when we put on the brake and try to turn the key, and we've tried wiggling, tried to shift into neutral, and checked the main Engine fuse. What can we do? Alsol will the key remaining in the ignition drain the battery?

try and turn your steering wheel a little bit left or right and and the same time try and turn the key when it turns toward the dash then try and turn the key back. try and repeat this several times if neccessary. this should work. please rate this solution. thanks

You can jump across the celonoid on the starter. If the engine turns over then your problem is either the celonoid or the starter switch.

SOURCE: 2000 Olds Bravada ignition

Okay .. had the EXACT same problem - word for word .. turns out, that my positive battery cable was corrodid badly.. the ignition switch wasnt getting any power or signal - so it didnt know the trans was in park, so it locked the key in place... and all power cut off obviously because no juice was going thru the cable.
Apparently however.. you will get almost the exact same symptoms if the ignition switch burns out... so first test the battery cables themselves.. if they are fine .. then plan on replacing the ignition switch.

SOURCE: how to get key out that is stuck in ignition

Remove steering column shroud(cover)and tap ignition barrel with small hammer while twisting key backwards and forwards, also turn steering wheel backwards and forwards sometimes this is enough to release key as the locking pins in barrel and the steering lock pin do sometimes jam.You will have to remove steering column shroud to replace ignition barrel if tapping/hitting it doesnt work anyway so its not a wasted effort.Good luck, let me know how it works out

SOURCE: Key stuck in ignition

Under the steering column is an access plug. Remove the plug and insert a small shaft driver into the hole and push up gently, the key will release.

Dead battery will not shift into neutral

Have you tried manually pressing the neutral safety switch? Not a 100% where it is if your shifter is on the column but the floor shifters usually top right or mid ways along the gear selector, something like a small square that pops out ive seen people release it with a small screw driver.

97 Bravada keys locked in ignition, will not start, brakes locked

You need at least 10.5 volts in the electrical system for the ignition keys to release from the switch. Be careful that you don't damage the ignition switch, or your going to have to replace it if the passlock system is damaged. Good luck and boost the battery to get the keys out of the switch.

Key stuck, won't turn, won't shift...replace ignition switch?

Before you replace the switch try this. As you try to turn the key rock the steering wheel back and forth. The key may turn then, if so it was stuck due to pressure from the steering wheel lock. If it still doesn't turn yes the key and tumbler are bad.

Key stuck in igntion.

Put the battery on charge or jump it. Basically it's locked in because of the lack of juice.

After replacing the gear shift cable on my Oldsmobile Bravada the key will not come all the way back to the lock position and the battery light stays on.

im not sure what linkage you replaced cause it is electronic. if key is stuck in acc. posision the problem is the ignition switch. the reason i say this is cause when you turn the key it elec. releases the shifter and when the switch gos bad it does not. a new ignition switch should be purchaced from a gm dealer.until fixed you will have to disconnect batt. every time until fixed and i would also use the park brake when not driving.

1996 Bravada wont start (no response to key turn) and key stuck

battery is dead, battery cables are loose, or your vehicle is not in park all the way. Put it into neutral and try to start it there.
