What year motors, can I use to replace my blown 1996 305 vortec t.b.i.? I own a 1996 GMC 1500, sl, ext. cab. Does it have to be a vortec for my current computer to work properly? Will engine mounts, bell housing, and other items match up? If so, what year to what year, will match up with my 96, 305? Thanks. Can I use my centerhead on different year motors, to make the computer work, properly? Example: a 93 t.b.i. motor.

Yes any TBI motor will work, You do have to switch your sensors, possibly motor mounts and balancer from the old motor. all other items should transfer.

it goes pop, yup its got plastic pop fasteners..... then remove the things on the inside surface. arm reset, and some have hidden screws there and behind door pull latchs, im sure yours is electric,all.
then most life UP to un latch the top window seal.

You can use any 305 motor. Like you said you will have to exchange parts from your old motor to the new one. Just make sure you don't go to far back, because the old 305's don't have the injector ports. Then you would have to replace the heads also.
Untill recently GM didn't change much of anything as far as bolt paterns You could bolt up a 350 from 20 years ago to your transmission and motor mounts. But that is not really what your wanting to do. The question is do you have a "vortec" or is it TBI. The vortec motor says vortec all over it (they were pretty proud of it I guess) The earlier TBI motor, at first glace look just like the old carburetor versions until you take of the air cleaner and find a throttle body instead of a carburetor. The two are not interchangeable as to the electronics, they are way diffract.
I would get the fan motor itself checked out. #5 position is where the current goes straight to the motor, that being burnt out indicates a burnt motor to me, or the resistor is fried. But I think the resistor is either in the motor or the controller, so either way, do check the fan.
