It could be a bunch of things I would check the fuel pump relay first its located inside the glove box behind a panal that says relays its the one on the far left . The way the fuel system on this vehicle works is the fuel pump will still work if the relay is bad because the system it backed up through the oil pressure sending unit. That is what actualy sends the voltage to the fuel pump however the sending unit has a switch inside of it that needs the oil pressure to be high enough to trip the switch to send this voltage to the fuel pump. On a cold day the oil pressure can't build high enough to trip this switch so you get no fuel this it why they tell you to put 5 30 wight oil in the engine. This isn't the olny possible answer to your problem however its what i would look at first and if your running 10 30 i would also replace the oil pressure sending unit. Im assumeing that the vehicle is cranking but not starting from what you have said ?but let me know i know how this vehicle works

1996 GMC Jimmy starter relay how to replace and install

The relay is located in the Underhood Bussed Electrical Center (UBEC) on the left side of truck. The starter relay is the large one in approximately the middle under the lid. Get a new one, pull it out and push the new one in.

1996 Chevy Astro V6 67K wont start when cold, needs engine starter fluid, ok when warmed up. Runs smooth. What is wrong?

I would say that the choke sensor (or whatever it is called) went bad & isn't telling the computer that it's cold & requires more fuel. Instead of starter fluid, did you try to push the foot feed 1 or 2 times?

Crank sensor

Clicking when trying to start is usually the sound of the starter solenoid. The problem based on the fact that eventually it will start will either be a loose or dirty connection at the battery (most likely if it is a connection issue), ground on the block, or power wire at starter, or the starter itself is on the way out.

I don't see how to remove starter on the 96 gmc jimmy here?? friend and i were working on it...seems the frame wont let the starter out no matter which way we turned it =(

My book says to remove the front right wheel, the skid plate, and the starter heat shield. 2 wheel drive, you also have to remove the front exhaust pipe from the manifold. If you need to know more, let me know, and i'll see what it says.

1996 Jimmy won't start . I had a starter plug changed years ago on top o f the engine. What is that plug part?

no such thing as a starter plug. Does it crank? if not its probably the starter, If it does crank its likely fuel pump..

My 01 GMC Jimmy wont start. It was running fine yesterday. Today when I out the key in, all the lights and guages work. I can hear the fuel pump working, and turning the key does nothing. The amps draw...

Starter or ingition switch problem. Let me guess, you live in a cold region? If yes, then I'm betting money on the starter. The cold does a number on starters. The colder it gets the more likely they go out. Lol, happened to my friends truck Tuesday and mine this morning. That's what we get for living in -10 degree weather right?

1996 jimmy wont start, think maybe timing ( died driving down the interstate)is it a timing chain or belt? is it even worth trying to fix

The 1996 Jimmy has a timing chain. I can't tell you whether or not it is worth replacing or junking the vehicle over, that depends on if you are able to replace it yourself, if you can find somebody to do it for a good price, or if you have enough money and have been wanting a new car. If you haven't checked yet you may want to check the solenoid. They tend to get hot and cut the circuitry of the engine off. If it was me i would check and see if it would start cold and if it does try and replace the solenoid, and then if the problem happened again take it to a shop to have the timing checked.

1996 gmc jimmy 4.3 very hard to start hot or cold

It sounds like you have a pin hole in the hose that goes to the fuel pump in the gas tank. The pump is mounted on springs and it is common for the plastic hose to get a hole rubbed in it from one of the springs. This usually cause the vehicle to be real hard to get started when it is cold.

1996 blazer wont go into 4 wheel drive

Try replacing the vacuum lines that go to the transfer case from the engine. I had the same problem on a 95 Jimmy and was told to do it.... I changed every piece of vacuum hose that had anything to do with the 4x4 and it worked. Hope this helps you out
