Sounds like one of the cylinders has lost power. The a/c puts a heavy draw on the engine.
Checked the plugs and wires recently ?

That is an indication that your ecu is reporting a fault code in the vehicle. Have the trouble codes read to find out what exactly is wrong.

I had the same problem and went to the dealer who wanted over $500 to replace the two sensors. the original ones are encased in plastic and send the wrong signal, the new ones that you can get at the parts department are all metal and I paid about $90 for both of them and I removed the old ones and replaced them with the new ones in about 40 mins and had no trouble since. one of the sensors in on the right hand top side of the engine and can be replaced in a few minutes, they just screw out and in. the other sensor is way down in back of the engine on the right hand side and is harder to replace only because there is not much room to move around so someone with skinny arms is required. Sounds like your car is in fail safe mode. You should get it scanned asap, to find out what's at fault. I suggest your local Nissan dealer for proper repair procedures.

Check the SPARK plug condition, and AIR gap.

is the check engine light on?? you may need a crank ngle sensor. pretty common problem with altima. nissan actually has TSB out for replacement of sensors. good luck.
