Speedometer on chevy silverado 1500 is not reading speed
Needs new cluster check with dealer might have recall
Speedodometer doesn't regoster @ all 05 silverado ss
SOURCE: speedometer not reading
What year is it? I know on the older models that the cable went right in to the top of the tranny and the gear was plastic and would wear down and not work or the cable would get pinched.

If you order a stepper motor make sure you replace all of them. They were originally made with plastic gears and the updated motors have brass gears in them. There is also some soldering involved.Make sure you are confident in desoldering and soldering on delicate pc boards and keep in mind you have to put the pointers in the correct positions on the cluster after the new motors are in. This can be tricky!!!. I sent mine to gmgaugerepair.webs.com They had it done and back to me in no time at all.

The motor behind the gauge is wearing out, very common on silverado instrument clusters for this to happen.
I can rebuild the gauge so it doesn't happen again, check my site out here www.DrSpeedometer.com

speedometer sticks reads 75 at idle
Mine is stuck at 110 what should i do
Mine is stuck @ 70 and as I accelerate it increases, but won't reset
Any help would be appreciative
have same problem. called chevy service hotline was told of a settlement being sought after. there number is 1-866-514-0405 or web site www.speedometersettlement.com
Mine is really wonky. Sometimes it doesn't work at all, sometimes it starts to work when I accelerate but then won't go down on deceleration. Sometimes it starts to go down each time I turn the key on and off until I eventually get it to zero. Sometimes it will only go down a bit when I actually stop. Sometimes the odometer stops and then all of a sudden will jump to a new number. If I don't end up with a speeding ticket, I'll probably have a crash because I spend all my time looking at the speedometer instead of watching the road! Gibby
My speedometer is suddenly registering over 120 mph all the time. I have 52525 miles on my truck.
i have the same prob. as all of yall..i got a letter saying they were recalling the part, however they stuck that mileage clause in there...ya, thanks buddy! To fix the stuck needle, i turn the key on WITHOUT cranking the engine, then turn it off...keep doing this until its back to 0. I've noticed my oil needle doing the same thing. I'm goin to try this tonight at the house ( when i figure out which fuse it is). 1. pull the fuse (even if its still good) crank the truck, let run a few minutes. turn off the truck, replace fuse ( same/or new one), crank 'er back up. 'they' said it might reset it. worth a try i guess, before i have to rip the guts out and shell out 800 bucks to dealership. HAPPY HOLIDAYS! ~ chix with tools!
My speedometer on my 2003 Silverado SS is all over the place, sometimes it is close to accurate other times it will read 0 while I am passing traffic down the highway. What precisely is causing this, is it in the gauges or down in the gears, or possibly just the cable.
my speedometer, goes up to 120 miles no matter how fast I'm going or when I'm at dead stop. It use to only do this when it was cold outside, now it's doing it all the time. I refuse to dilly dally with it, turning the motor off and on for 5 mph increments for it to go down to zero. It seems to accelerate fine, at least I hope so. I have a '03 gmc envoy with 65,000 miles on her. I love this car but am tired of the hassle. Last winter not only did the speedometer go hay wire but I couldn't get the key out of the ignition. Sent it to the shop and miraculously it worked for them and it only cost me $125.00 for their time to do NOTHING!! When I got it home, same problem, so I cut a hole in the column and manually release the key myself. Problem solved now if the speedometer were that easy.
