I'm trying to locate my starter, but am not 100% sure where it is. I'm trying to find some sort of illustration of where exactly it is.

The starter is on the backside of the engine between the firewall and engine. If you get underneath it look up from the passenger side of the support that goes front to back and you should see it there. There are 2 bolts if i remember right one threads into the starter itself and the other has a nut behind the solenoid if I rmember right

The starter is usually located on the bell housing/torqueconverter housing where the transmission bolts onto the engine and would be towards the rear of the assembly. It has the starter solenoid attached to it as well. Try follow the battery cables, the thick positive cable normally runs straight to the started.

1999 Honda v6 after cutting eng off. The car will not start back up. L

Under your dash above the steering column there is a starting relay replace it. You can Google this and they will show you the exact location. New they cost about 100 dollars go to a salvage yard and pay under 10 dollars. One other suggestion first try this get a big hammer and hit your starter 3 or 4 times solid and then try to start the engine. Starter may be bad and hitting it will move the rotor to allow it to start. good luck.

Ground wire location

does jumper cable starts fail too?
ill pretend, no.
batteries come in 3 flavors, dead and charges, or? weak?
jump starts of live engine's is another matter.

so the RED wire big goes from battery Plus to solenoid stud. big
and the minus battery lug on many cars gots to the starter mount bolt.
this is the best place for it.
on you car i dont know, and only the FSM shows that.
alldata.com will not show exact spot. only a schematic.
the starter can PULL 500 amps easy, but 100 is typical on a spring day. and that ground wire belongs on the starter bolt or to the
actually engine block, some way, this I am 100% sure.

Engine cranking over but not startingStarting

Most likely your starter. Try hitting the starter really hard with a big wremch of some sort, then start it. It shiuld start so u can get it to a mechanic of some sort. If thats not it, it might be a spark plug. Both quite expensive. You can get a rebuilt one fore 150 and about 100 for labor. 250-300 is a fair price to fix a starter

I tried to turn the key but i get now response, just a slight clicking sound for a Jeep Grand Cherokee

hi this sounds like the starter motor solenoid there could be a way to free it and find out for sure if it is u/s, what you have to do is, locate starter on your vehicle, depending on its location you can try tapping it with a small hammer or a long bar of sorts, at the same time get someone to turn the ignition at the same time while you are tapping the starter, this should free the solenoid and then the starter should work, if it does, turn the motor off, and try again and see if it works if it does your ok, if not then try the above again, if you have to do it every time you turn the motor off then you will need to replace your starter be sure not to be near any moving parts in case it starts....hope this helps please vote thanks

1998 ford explorer/ need location to remove and

If your going to be removing all of this I recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on the vehicle so you have the illustrations and directions for dis-assembly and assembly of the starter. The starter should be located on the bottom right of the engine where the Transmission attaches.

1995 Cavalier No Start, No Crank

hi philavanilla'

Do you hear any click when you turn the key to start? If you don't that means your starter solenoid is not being energized and therefore no complete circuit for the starter motor.
If you hear a click but no cranking then the starter motor is probably NG. The best thing you can do to verify exactly what is wrong is to remove the starter, (the solenoid is mounted on the starter) and take it to a place like Auto Zone where they can check out the operation of solenoid and/or starter.
Be sure you disconnect the ground lead (that's the negative lead that connects to the frame/engine) before you attempt to remove the starter.

Hope this helps Good luck Loringh Ps Please leave a rating if appropriate Thanks
