I get a lot of black smoke from the exhaust and a large cloud comes out when i change up and put my foot down
This is almost certainly a split hose - mine was the large hose coming out of the bottom of the EGR valve.
Speaking to a parts guy at my local Jaguar dealer, he said that the new part is uprated as Jaguar are aware that this is a problem.
The split allows more air in and results in the ECU changing the mixture and over fuelling - Black smoke is an indication of un-burnt Diesel. As well as the black smoke you may also notice a whistle/whine or sucking noise when you accelerate and a lack of power / lumpiness at around 2000rpm.
Hope that helps!

Check the EGR vale, examine the hose from the intercooler to the manifold for splitting, the ERG (Exhaust Gas valve) collects unburnt fuel, cools it and via the intercooler, sends it back the fuel tank, if the ERG is not working it will blow the unburnt full through the exhaust, Splits in the hole draws air in and causes the same problem.
Had this problem with mine, found out it was the rubber pipe from the egr valve that was split. cost from jaguar £73.27 hope this helps. boovie
Try millers diesel additive, available from Halfords for around £12 for 500ml. I have a 2004 2.0d sport xtype. It was blowing out white or grey smoke when the turbo kicked in. I took it to a specialist who told me get the injectors ultrasonically cleaned. But try millers at 4 times the recommended dose. It worked wonders. There is no smoke at all any more. ( After a blast down the M4 ). Black smoke will mean probably a split hose somewhere. Try it. £12 is nothing..

Similar problem on mondeo a few years ago was a split in diaphram causing fuel to accumalate then suddenly burn off with lots of excess exhaust fumes
2003 X Type Jaguar seems to have a flat spot between 50 and 70 mph and smokes quite bad. Does go once i accelerate pass it. I do treat the car with redex and may think i have put to much in the tank ? The car does not burn any oil and as good performace"
As above the car is a diesel and blows out black smoke

I get black smoke come out of the exhaust when i put my foot down. It's very embarrassing when your idle and then take off gently.you leave a big cloud of black smoke.
I have a x-type 2.0diesal se dci 2005.
I have put in the tank a bottle of diesal cleaner. A lot of black smoke is coming out.The tank is empty now ,i have just filled up again to see whether it will be any better.
I dont know either if this causes the car to so called '****' when driving along without accelerating, if you know what i mean.
I,m getting different opinions from different people as to the cause of this problem,ie filter, oil need changing
Let me know what you think

nissan x-trail emits a lot of black smoke when exelerating what could be the problem?
Jaguar 2.0 diesel, 2005, 94,000 km. grey / black smoke on hard acceleration. Can obscure car behind it is so bad.
Just bought a a 55 plate x type 2.0 D. Black smoke on heavy acceleration, sometimes worse than others, ie. gentle acceleration less or no smoke. No power loss and acceleration fine. When travelling at constant speed or idling no smoke is apparent. Breeze/ sucking noise apparent just before smoke when accelerating and felt a current of air when I lifted the bonnet, above the cam belt. Any ideas?
I have the simuler problem but the smoke that's emited from the exhaust is white, only when I accelerate, I have been told that is the turbo blowing all the **** out? should a turbo have **** in it ?
I was told by a Jag mechanic (i have an o4 X-type estate 2.0D) that Jag knew about this problem about 3 years ago, but they have never allowed it to become a 'fix'. Jag dealers just say it is 'rubbish coming out of the exhaust' - yeah. like that happens on other quality cars..not. My hose has finally split which resulted in some very angry people behind me for the next 20 miles as I couldn't get above 55 and the smoke was worse than a 1970's Transit. I will let you know if the new hose fixes everything.
Can you detect an air leak when the engine ideling
