SAAB 9-5 LINEAR TID DIESEL SALOON 3.0 DIESEL THE FOLLOWING DEFECT: THE CAR STARTS, RUNS AND DRIVES SWEETLY,THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE NEVER GOES ABOVE THE HALFWAY MARK AND THE HEATER BLOWS CONSTANT HOT AIR. BUT AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN RUN FOR APPROX 20 MINS, THE DASHBOARD COMPUTER STATES "TOP UP COOLANT" . WHEN THE BONNET IS LIFTED, THE HEADER TANK IS PRESSURIZING AND THERE IS A SLIGHT HISSING FROM THE HEADER TANK CAP. IF RELEASED, THERE IS NO VIOLENT ESCAPE OF WATER AND IT DOES NOT NEED TOPPING UP WITH WATER. I HAVE DRIVEN THIS CAR LIKE THIS FOR OVER 50 MILES IT DID NOT OVERHEAT ON THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE OR LOSE ITS HEATER HOT AIR SUPPLY AT ANY TIME.

I had the same problem on my 9-5 vector 3.0 TiD with the top up coolant warning. Nearly became bankrupt trying to diagnose the problem and trips to Saab. Header tank, sensors, pressure tested etc. The Saab squaddies couldn't figure it out until it got worse. It's a head gasket failure despite passing pressure tests initially...sounds like it's still early days on yours. Had to replace the engine for near £5000.but under warranty :-) Reckon 2.5-3k at a good specialists.

I have a 2003 SAAB 9-3 2.0 Linear and just filled it up with gas and the gas gauge now reads empty and the engine light came on. I just got the car a week ago.

You may need a new fuel sender (sensor) is why car isn't reading your gas, and with the engine light now on that is cause your gas cap wasn't put on tight enough. I've had both of these happen to me with my car. Hope this helps.
