I own a 2002 dodge intrepid and i am currently trying to find out how to get the black plastic cassing off the engine so i can remove the old thermostat and install the new one, since i am not a mechanic i need help here
I have a 3.5 ltr 2003 intrepid sxt and mine is under the plenum...how should I go about this one? Just remove the plenum I guess? Since the intrepid is not heating up as quick as it use to and with a hydrometer it reads -45 although I see some floaties in it. Thanks... Final note. The thermostat for the 3.2 and 3.5L V-6 is also located where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine.
According to the manual, you need to remove the alternator to get at the thermostat on the 2.7L V-6.Final note. The thermostat for the 3.2 and 3.5L V-6 is also located where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine.

Sorry, I didn't ask what size your engine is. The information I just provided is for the 2.7L V-6.Sorry, I didn't ask what size your engine is. The information I just provided is for the 2.7L V-6.
Are you referring to the upper part of the intake plenum -- the roughly oval shaped housing centered over the engine? It's bolted to the lower intake plenum with about 8 or bolts located down in the recesses of the casting.
However, if memory serves (I haven't looked this up in the manual recently, and my manual is at home), the thermostat is located on the lower left side of the engine, where the lower radiator hose connects to the engine. You'll have to work from underneath, and may have to remove some other components to get at it.Are you referring to the upper part of the intake plenum -- the roughly oval shaped housing centered over the engine? If it is the 3.5 liter v6 then the thermostat will be at the top of the engine where the radiator hose hooks up to the engine there will be a short pipe where radiator hooks up and two or three bolts holding it to the engine it is not under the plastic intake plenum it is forward of that .

This should be located in the power/fuse box under the hood. The box should be located near the battery. Remove the plastic cover on the box and there should be a diagram showing the positions for the relays.
Actually the intrepid was discontinued on 2005 in favor of the magnum. If you are referring to the last year of the Intrepid. All engines should fit but for minimal changes swap the engine with the same displacement (2.7L, 3.3L & 3.5L).
to get to the battery you neeed to removed the passanger side tire nad the is a plastic shiel you need to removed to get to the batery,
the starter is located on the driver side of the engine and you can see ie fron under the car, there are 3 bolts
you should only have to remove the plastic filter holder and the hose is right there on top of the motor.the plastic breather/filter cover is the only thing you should have to remove to get to the hose
