big problem with egr intake passage plugging up need to remove upper intake check passage

map sensor. check your spark plugs, wires, etc. maybe a loose wire plug. did u mention check engine light, i wonder can you tell me what diagnostic code came up. go to ur nearest auto parts if u dont have a scanner. and pull them codes out.

I have wondered why this happens many times in the past. You would think the marks should line up using #1 cylinder but they don't.
It has been a while but I think if you hook up to #5 ignition wire the marks will come up for you.You will need to undo the "spout" connector before setting it to 10 degrees before top dead center. The spout is a two wire jumper clip that should break out of the harness at the distributor.
Warm the engine up for a while so it doesn't stall as easy while you set the timing.

Could also refer to MAF sensor. ( Mass air flow ). Usually in air cleaner inlet or filter assy, area.

Not a recall, but there is a TSB on the fuel injectors, but this is more so they would lock open, and flood the cylinder with fuel, causing the engine to hydro lock. The codes are P2111: throttle actuator control system-stuck open & P2104: throttle actuator control system-forced idle. Sounds as if the throttle control motor is having an issue.
