Missing the keyless remote, how do I start the engine ?

Dear Experts,

I am in trouble now. Somebody stole my bag with my RAV4 key remote in it. Although I have the spare but if I loose it also, I would not be able to start the engine, would I ?
As you know the Japan imported 2006 Toyota RAV4 came complete with its keyless entry remote system, meaning that to open/lock the door and start the engine, you only need its remote. No key hole starter in the dashboard or in steering column. All it has is one big knob on the dash to start or cut-off the engine.
The question is how do you start the engine if supposedly you loose your remote key. Yes, the spare has its key slotted in the remote to open the door in emergency. So you can still open the door with the key, but to start the engine, useless without the remote.
I am sure the Toyota would have thought about this but I still can find the way, nor in the manual or from asking any mechanic.
Help pleassess.....

SOURCE: Keyless Entry Key Doesn't Work

Regarding the remote transmitter issue: Take the remote transmitter to your Toyota dealer. Ask them to test your transmitter with their hand-held RF detector. All Toyota dealers are required to have one of these devices. The RF detector will test the remote to see if it is indeed transmitting the proper RF out of the transmitter, and the strength of the RF signal. If there is no signal, the remote has failed (unfortunatly common), and the remote will need to be replaced and reprogrammed to the vehicle. I do this quite regularly, and rarely do I tell customers taht they need to spend 800 dollars for such a simple diagnosis/fix. The keyless system is very reliable. I rarely change the ECU for the keyless, unless somebody somehow gets the ECU wet, then it def needs replaced. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Keyless Remote 2008 RAV4

You can take it back to the dealer, and have them change the battery, or go to Autozone, buy the battery and do it yourself. They can show you how to do it. And which battery it takes. It's not hard to do. Good luck.

Interesting problem.. since not US spec. Is there a 'remote keyless (fob)' programmed for this vehicle? That's the only way to DE-arm the immobilizer (anti-theft) feature (based on US specs). Unless you have this key fob (keyless entry remote... which must also be programmed for this vehicle), the only other way is wait 5 minutes with the existing key in the ignition, then it should start (US specs). You will still need to have an 'ACTIVE' keyless remote programmed for this vehicle... otherwise, you'll continue to run into this problem.

Can not lock car by key remote . toyota rav 4 53 plate

If your car has an alarm with a separate remote, it is a separate system and it is probably self-arming. When you lock the doors with the key central lock, the alarm gets armed by the RAV4 being OFF and the door locking action. When you unlock the doors with the key, the alarm is still armed because the key is not comunicating with the alarm just the cars factory keyless system.

Door lock

Make sure the battery on your Keyless Entry remote is a working battery.

If thats not it, it could very well be the actual button on your Keyless Entry remote being faulty. But it could also be a relay in the car aswell. Depending on the cost of a Relay versus the cost of a Keyless Entry remote, I would try to replace either/or and try again, whichever is cheaper. The Relay may be cheaper, but your Key-FOB sounds like it could be the cause.
