Could be a dirty or failing lifter, could be piston skirt "slap"... Try a fresh oil change and an additive. I normally don't like additives because they usually are a waste of $$'s but... I've had good luck with a product called SEAFOAM (at O'Reilly's, etc...). Might be worth a try.
How many miles on your Silverado and what motor is in it?

Good Luck.

2001 chevy suburban. I hear a humming noise from the engine. Engine ticks while idle for after a few minutes. Ticking goes away when I accelerate. There is a strong vibration when I accelerate in drive but...

Ticking sounds like a dry lifter, when was the last time you changed the oil and filter? Humming sounds like you need a tire rotation because of uneven tire wear.

2002 buick century has a ticking sound when first cranked goes away in a minute or two full of oil

I have had a simillar problem in the past. It may very well be your lifters. A minute or two after cranking the engine, oil lubricates them and they get quieter. Buy a bottle of No-Smoke from Autozone. It is very thick and will temporarily help to silence the problem. You wil have to adress the expensive issue sonner than later. In some instances, a person will use that product to stop any smoking and quiet lifters long enough to sell the car to some poor unsuspecting buyer.

Cold weather starting problem

I would say it's bad contacts in the ignition switch. Metals change dimensions depending on temperature, looks like 45 degrees is the trick point for whatever is in there. My 04 Silverado 5.3 with 196,000 has the ticking, but it is gone within 10-15 seconds.

Starts and ticks over fine for about 1 min then cuts out

I believe you are stating when you start the vehicle you hear a ticking sound from the motor. After a few minutes it goes away. I ahve 2 grand vitara's. A 2001 and 2002. Both had this issue. On the 2002 it was a faulty cam belt tightener that was taking too long to tighten. This was replaced under warranty as it worsened over time. The 2001 still has the issue but goes away. Some times this is also and can be a sign of oil not getting circulated quick enough once you start your engine. I believe this is the problem with the 2001. It now has 300000 plus kms on it and still does it. No long term issues with this vehicle. I would suggest you have someone look at it regardless of comment I have posted.

Ticking sound

Gm will tell you this is normal lifter noise if it from the top of the motor. It could be from the exhaust but you would hear it from under the car more. I do not care for the responce from GM but they say it is ok.

2002 chevrolet silverado 2 wheel drive that rattles when you drive down a bumpy road. It seems worse when you first take off in the morning, but after you drive it for a while the noise seems to not be as...

Personally, I would start looking at the exhaust system shields and hangers. Make sure they are secure and not too close to the exhaust components. Minimum clearance for the shields is 20mm ( roughly 3/4"). You might be able to get away with a little less, but move or bend to get additional clearance.
Also make sure the spare tire rigging is secure, always a culprit.
Let me know how it goes,

2004 silverado

THIS IS NORMAL noise for your truck. carbon buildup on pistons causes a cold start knock until warms up. you can run some top engine cleaner thru engine to help. but noise is nothing to affect life of engine
