Most hardware stores should be able to duplicate the key. If the duplicate doesn't work, ask for a new one. They shouldn't charge you for the bad key. If they do, go to another store.
you have to get a chip in ur old key there is a micro chip if its not there the comp picks this up u need to get it re coded if u have a chip key ..but if u have just a new cut key u will have to get another one with chip and get it recoded or put the old key very close to ingnition to work
This all depends on if the key has a chip in it and if they can get it to turn in order to release the lock pin that holds cylinder in place. this may run about $200.00
If you have the key with the "chip" or resistor in it, sometimes called the pass key, or smart key, you won't be able to have another key make that will work. You can have another key made that will fit the ignition switch, but if you use it,it will trigger the anti theft system and you won't be able to start your car, even with the crrect key.You can have a bypass system installed that will enable you to use any key, but it will disable the security system. Go to a website called "newrockies". They have an affordable bypass system that works.
Easy way to tell, look at your originally keys. When they first started using key chips as a security feature the keys with black covers where normal keys but if your original key had a gray rubber type cover it has a security chip in it. That means the only place to get a spare key made is the dealer because they have to order the key using your VIN. The only way to bypass this is to replace the ignition switch and the ECM. The ECM will cost $1600 + on it's own.
