The front door speakers are 5.25" (6.5" can be made to fit). The rear speakers (if equipped) are 6x8". Source: 30 years experience in the Mobile Electronics industry, Owner of PowerSounds Mobile Electronics, and owner of a 1992 Ford Ranger standard cab.
Hi Dithq, Measure the molding that the manufactures have outlined and get a speaker of those dimensions. The output watts will depend on the music system you intend to use. The specs are usually printed onto the set. Regards John
Made me laugh and reminisce. One time my dad bought a 1957 ford 2 door hardtop. I was about 14 years old, so just starting to drive. Driving that car was a real gas, but at any little bump, the rear end bottomed out and made a loud whump!
Find a wiring diagram from a repair manual for the number of speakers. Don't know what size, but wherever the speakers are located, the mounting hole and dimensions should help you figure it out. Also try googling ranchero. You might find an enthusiasts forum that you would like to join.
The factory speakers are 6x9 BUT the magnet on the factory speakers are much smaller than on aftermarket, higher quality 6X9 speaker making it almost certain the window will not roll down after installing an aftermarket 6X9.
Most go with a 6X5 because they are a bit smaller and there is a wider variety of them. Where ever you go to purchase that speaker. make sure the measurements are taking real well if going with another 6x9. There is always the option of the factory 6x9 but a nice aftermarket will fit in there so long as you mind the size.

six and a half inch speakers round on the doors pop out an old one first. any place thats selling speakers will have a figment guide for you to verify your dimensions. goodluck
Order speakers from the manufacturer, or uninstall the blown one and bring it to your local wal-mart or auto store and they can help you find the proper speaker. If you intend to purchase them online, you will have to take dimensions of the speaker or find the dimensions from the vehicle's parts catalogue.
all you should have to do is take the speakers to an audio place to determine the size and shape of the speakers. most speakers of the same size and shape will work with your car. there should be 4 speakers in your car and if you have tweeters there will be 2 of those
