Has your Grand Am been in bad winter (dirty) weather? Locate the door accentuator on each door...these are located near the inside of each hinge...one for each door...You have the right part if you can depress the spring loaded push pin...lubricate each of these push pins thoroughly with PB Blaster, or WD-40...(both available even at Walmart automotive:) If all of these are fine...the dome light switch on your dash is bad...Hope this helps.

Suggested answer below is perfect..
(check the interior light switch...
then move on to the door switches)..

If you have already done that

FREE wiring diagrams fro most popular USA market vehicles
are available (registration required) at BBB Industries... Also see their very helpful TSBs (technical service bulletins).

Hope this helps.

((and don't forget to put in that new dome bulb)).

Need to turn off dome light off. It stays on because door is slightly ajar after a accident.

There are little buttons on the side of the door. When the door shuts, it pushes the button closed. That is what turns off the light. Find the button and tape it with tape. Problem solved. DM, you could also find the fuse to turn it off to. Best wishes.

The interior lights on my friends 1999 Pontiac Grand Am won't turn off.

three things to check,
first make sure the switch to adjust the dash lights is not turned the whole way which turns on the dome light,
next make sure its not a push on and off dome light that someone forgot to push off, next would be one of the door switches is not adjusted correctly, which the computer would think a door is not close and keep them on

How do i remove dome light's from 1992 pontiac grand am so i take headliner down and replace it with new headliner

You will need to take the plastic cover off the dome light. You will find screws that will need to be removed. Once removed dome light should come down. Disconnect wires.

In my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited the dome lights will not turn off. I took it to altons and they couldnt figure it out. They thought it was on of the doors not hitting the sencer right but the dome...

i believe in 96 they used internal switches as part of lock assy in the door. Most popular failure was tailgate and driver door as they are the most used door. if you have ability to remove either or both door panels and diconnect at the lock you can prove which it is
