Try taking the battery out of the car and putting it on a battery charger for about an hour then put it back in to see what happens sometimes a jump isnt good enough especially is the battery is really drained. I mean you can jump it but it would take a while a better way is to put a good charge on the battery and then try it if it still clicks then it may be the starter but I would certainly try the battery first.

Nothing happens when i turn key to start posion. Just a makes a clicking sound under the hood..

Clicking when trying to crank can have a number of possible issues. From most likely to least likely they are:

1. Weak battery. Cold fall weather often is the downfall of many older batteries. Try a jump start. If the car kicks over with a boost, it most likely needs a new battery.

2. Loose or corroded battery connections. This causes lack of current to get to the starter. Remove corrosion and tighten all connections.

3. Bad starter. Like anything else, they die eventually.

My 99 chrysler lhs problem code p1792 has a charge battery but it won't start it only makes a clicking sound and won't turn on unless I give it a jump.

If it makes a rapid clicking sound when you turn the key, then the battery does not have enough power to turn the starter, fit new battery, after fitting battery start car and check alternator is charging properly, let me know how it goes

Car wont turn over and making a humming noise when key is in on position. when i try to start it the car makes a clicking sound.

the alternator isn't charging battery that would account for loss of power and also clicking when try to start , try a jump start if it starts then you know its the battery so with engine running check the alternator charge rate with a voltmeter across the battery terminals anything below 13 volts then check the alternator belt is tight enough , good condition etc , then recheck charge rate if still low fit new alternator

2005 Altima won't start, hear clicking sound coming from fuse box,key stuck in ingintion, won;t turn over, tried to jump start.

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

When i turn the key on it makes a clicking sound

Hi there:It sure sounds like a dead or weak battery or problem with connections at battery or starter contacts. Check all connections and make sure there is no corrosion built up at battery terminals. Charge battery or try jumping.
If even dont work, check starter, starter solenoid or ignition switch.
Hope this helps.

2004 Jeep liberty 3.7 makes clicking sound when trying to start. How do I fix this problem

if it is just making a ' clicking ' sound - then this is ususlly a sign that the battery is bad and does not have the Amps to engage the starter. the clicking sound that you hear is the starter solenoid.
replace your battery with a new one ( car batteries really are only good for 4 to 5 years ) -- and when you change the battery, check to make sure your alternator is also putting out the proper voltage to charge the system,, ( most battery test/supply shops will do this for free to make sure everything is fine ).
NOW -- if your battery is good (?) - then the problem is the starter solenoid itself and it will need to be replaced. the starter and the solenoid are sold as a complete unit.
to get your car to the battery shop -- just jump start the vehicle using another vehicle. ( NOTE: when attaching the cables to the battery - make sure your keys are out of the ignition, as the 'SPIKE' sometimes can harm sensitive computer units in the car,, after about 2 minutes of attaching the cables - then put your keys in the ignition and start the car. ).
