Check catalytic converter to see if it is glowing also. Could be stopped up not allowing exhaust gases to escape. Hopefully it will have two of them otherwise the right side should be glowing also if it is stopped up. Sometimes it will also have a funny smell like sulfur. Hope this helps. Converter is located beneath vehicle in-between manifolds and muffler(s) if dual system.

We have a 2004 Ford F-150 5.4l 4x4 that stalls when driving in reverse or idles low when at a stop sign or red light. What could be causing that?

If you have a 5.4L V8, this is most likley a vuccum leak. If you have a check engine light on, and the code tells you that the mixture is lean in rail one and two, it's bad news. There is a vaccum hose under the manafold that goes to the power brake system. Unless you are a mechanic, the manafold must be removed by a professional to replace the hose as the original EGR valve connections no longer exists. Varriable valve timing on the cam shafts has eliminated the connection above the manafold. About $600.

Want to change the spark plugs do i need to take the manifold off

Best investment to buy for this car is the break down book (Chilton or Hayes) That will tell you everyting you need to know. but...just did this on my car. have to start by removing the throttle body and disconnecting the 2 cables attatched to it. Then the bracket attatched to the manafold for the throttle body. next remove the air intake assembly. Now with all that out of the way. remove the 2 bolts from the metal tubing for the thermostat. I believe theres like 7 or 8 visible bolts on the intake manafold it self. Remove those. Then theres 2 that are kinda tricky to get to. Damn Mopar for this...one is on the right side as your looking at it back twards the fire wall almost and the other is on the left side, same situation. Need a universal joint socket adapter to get to those. With all that removed, it should come off fairly easy.

I lifted the manafold to change the thermostat and the long metal piece under the manafold. There was nothing there! Where do I find this Thermostat on a Chrysler 300m.

The thermostat is in the block on the drivers side behind the thermostat housing. Follow the lower radiator hose to the block.
