Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation

  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Check your blower motor fuse as the high fan runs on a separate fuse than the other fan speeds.

Overheats unless ac is running

The thermostat may be stuck. If it dosent open then the engine will overheat. If you turn the ac on then the air rushing around the engine will help cool it down. Replace the thermostat and it should fix it

2002 grand prix overheats at idle

Sounds like the fans (which are designed to simulate the wind when u are not moving) are not cutting on. While car is running in park and with the AC on, look under the hood to see if the fan is running? If you have 2 fans, one will run when the AC is on, the other when the car reaches a certain temperature. Post your findings for additional instructions.

P0481 on grand prix 2002. cooling fans work with a/c on and relays seem ok. vehicle temp gauge opertaes ok and does not seem to get hot.

sounds normal, the fans were made to run continuous w/ ac running, but on sensor when ac is off. if car isn't overheating, the fans are probably running from time to time ,but your just not catching them running

Climate control switch does not work in lower modes only in high.

The pontiacs have an issue with the ignition switch, I have a 2001 grand prix that did the same. The ac fan would only work on 5 and the headlights would go off if on 1-4 replace the switch and all is fine.
