Start with a complete tune-up

Plug wires can cause this.

Do spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotor cap, spark plug wires, fuel filter, air filter, oil & oil filter.

People often neglect these simple things which could save your motor, maintain it's efficiency plus improve gas mileage.

I have a 1987 ford ranger when im goin down the road it seems to lose fuel i changed the pumps but im lost now can anyone help thanks

Check your fuel pressure regulator. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the back of it and check for fuel coming out, and listen to see if your engine RPM increases. If you have fuel coming out the back, it's ruptured and needs to be replaced. If your engine doesn't increase in RPM when you disconnect it, it's probably seized up and will need to be replaced. Those little FPR's are the cause of 90% of fuel related issues on these trucks, at least in my experience.

MISSING CAN BE CAUSED BY CLOGGED FUEL FILTER,BAD SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES, WEAK OR FAULTY IGNITION COILS, YOU COULD HAVE VACUUM LEAK AT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD OR YOU HAVE LOW UNEVEN CYLINDER COMPRESSION.

2003 Ford Ranger Pickup traveling down the road

Is there somthing hitting the gas pedal, like the floor mat? Or maybe something under the dash came loose and is getting caught under the brake pedal and pushing on the gas. Put the shifter in neutral if you get into a situation where going to hit something or someone. The engine has a rev limiter, to prevent it from over reving.

2004 Ranger XLT 4x4 (4.0 V6) fuel pump/system problem

if the pump has been changed twice its probally not the pump. could be the fuel pressure regulator. the computer will still throw a fuel code but in order to really diagnose the problem they would have to test the fuel pressure.

2004 Ford Ranger XLT miss fires in blowing snow

Sounds like you have a bad spark plug wire. Start the vehicle, then take a squirt bottle of water and spray around the plug wires. You should find it. It'll look like static around the bad one. Also you should get the misfire. You'll probably find a worn area on the wire. Best wishes to you.

Misses when hot also lifters become noisy

The camshaft may be worn or the lifters .that explains the missing when you run it at operating temp.By the description of the oil. the reasomn the canmshaft wore out and the valve lifters is because the oil was not changed on a regular basis.
